Man, this is a tough one. Personally Norwegian Wood paints such a vivid image for me, it tells a story and entertains musically as well. Rubber Soul is amazing for many reasons, including the start of the lyrical/musical transition for the Fab Four. “Norwegian Wood ” remains a top notch John song.
I’m usually a bigger fan of Macca than John but this album is an exception. All of John’s tracks in this album tend to be my favorites. There’s no denying “Michelle ” is a wonderful song that would come third in my book, but my second favorite if not the first, would be “Girl”. The blend of vocals and backing vocals, the feeling in John’s voice, the beautiful acoustic chords. Put headphones in, really listen to this song’s subtle details and you got yourself a beautiful experience.

Oh, I’m sorry –I know Girl, Norwegian Wood and Nowhere Man will be many people’s choices (John did great didn’t he? And the lyrics!), but I’ll go with Michelle , I’ll go with Paul. Its melody is even better than Yesterday –and that’s saying a lot. Arrangements? Perfect The solo? Perfect as well. Lyrics? Sweet and romantic, but in a good way. When Paul sings “I need to, I need to, I need to…”, it’s really a cry for love. Michelle , no doubt about it.

Norwegian Wood . It stands out the most to me. I remember hearing it for the first time as a wee one and thinking how exotic and different that sitar sounded.

My favorite Beatles album, by far. It’s difficult for me to choose a favorite song, but Norwegian Wood , In My Life , and If I Needed Someone shine a little brighter for me (it also helps that I like playing them all on my guitar).
just not What Goes On ( sorry, Ringo!)

I agree with the many comments regarding the vocals, it is one the best sung albums. My favourite, if I was offered a huge financial incentive to pick one, it would have to be If I Needed Someone, just amazing.

In My Life . A perfect Lennon/McCartney collaboration resulting in the gold standard for songs.
What song is more universally known to be great than In My Life ?

I have four, they’re all my favourite depending on my mood. Girl, Nowhere Man , In My Life and You Won’t See Me . If I really had to pick one.. I guess it probably would be In My Life because it looks as if it were written for someone I know, followed closely by Girl’s wonderful melody.

I agree with all of you… bother! It’s like trying to pick a favourite from Revolver ! And, as has been widely documented, I suck at choosing favourites.
I suppose, if pressed, I would name If I Needed Someone . Or Nowhere Man . Or Drive My Car . Or… ergh!

I can narrow it down to top three, but as has been said before me, it is too difficult to choose between them: Nowhere Man , Norwegian Wood and Think For Yourself .
A common denominator I’m finding in everyone’s list is Norwegian Wood …

This album is such a classic and it is hard to choose just one favorite, but I will have to go with Nowhere Man , mainly due to the fact that it is a great song and it is the first popular rock song that is not classified as an instrumental that has nothing to do with romantic relationships, something that was later more prominent with The Beatles as well as bands such as The Beach Boys , Black Sabbath, Queen, AC/DC, KISS, and a slew of other prog rock, hard rock, and heavy metal bands. As for my least favorite, I must go with What Goes On because Ringo sucks at singing (they should’ve never allowed him to sing, great drummer though) and You Won’t See Me because it just feels lacking compared to the rest of the album.
Maybe you should try posting more.

I agree with What Goes On , but does that mean you don’t like With A Little Help From My Friends , Octopus’s Garden and Yellow Submarine ?

They’re great songs, but Ringo can’t sing (although I do believe the lack of vocal talent fits Yellow Submarine quite well) and the other Beatles knew it, which is why he only gets one song and on 3 albums (A Hard Day’s Night , Magical Mystery Tour , Let It Be ), they don’t even give him a chance to sing. The funny thing is that when he does backing vocals on non-Ringo songs (which is rare), his voice is very prominent and decent, most notably on Flying and Carry That Weight , although I think it’s a good thing they did this rarely because nothing says Beatles better than beautiful 3 part harmonies done by John, Paul, and George.

Yes, Ringo was definitely better at drumming.
And I agree that he can’t sing very well, but I think it is important for him to sing on a couple of songs, because otherwise he’ll never get better.
Can you imagine Ringo singing a fourth part on Nowhere Man ? That could have been horrendous…

The Magical Mystery Tour album was a Capitol creation and it cannot be said it was a Beatles created album on which Ringo wasn’t given a lead vocal.
Maybe the more interesting aspect is that Ringo was never given a film soundtrack lead vocal.
