What I like about John’s songs on Revolver (especially She Said She Said , And Your Bird Can Sing , Doctor Robert ) is how they feel part of an ongoing series with the same type of sound. And as said, Rain and I’m Only Sleeping go together very nicely. He definitely had an established sound for this album.
There is an interesting discussion about this in this documentary.
There are several such documentaries available – I have been streaming them on Amazon Prime. They include the above as well as 1957-1965, post-Beatles, etc… They feature writers from different rock mags, well known authors of Beatles books, even Klaus Voormann. The discussions are centered on the songwriting and what influenced it at the times the songs were written. Very well done IMHO.

And Your Bird Can Sing and She Said She Said always gave me an impression that they were about the same person.

Listening through the 2022 remix, I’m immediately struck by how strong an opener Taxman is. Paul and Ringo firing off tight rhythms right from the get go, while George lays down some of the most bitter and sarcastic lyrics yet in their catalog. Then the guitar solo… Wham! John the only Beatle who doesn’t stand out on this track, and if you know the album well, you’re aware that he’s got some magic yet to come.
