Guessing the outtakes won’t have the same remaster treatment that the main Records/CDs will have, I will once again be content to download the outtakes from YouTube. I’ll be content buying the 2 CD set, and be done with it.
Too bad Apple needs to gouge us with these prices.

Tomorrow Never Knows [take 1] has been posted on YT and is available on streaming services, a couple of seconds longer than the A2 release with some extra Lennon gibberish at the end…
The first review of the Super Deluxe by Andre Gardner (former host of Breakfast with The Beatles Sunday) can be found here. It does contain spoilers.

This is the worst value of all of these box sets so far. These deluxe sets are aimed at the hardcore fans and not the casual buyer and most fans will already own the mono mix from the Beatles Mono Masters set, so that’s a totally redundant disc for many.
But the last straw is that they aren’t including the Blu-ray with the hi-res audio mixes which has been a key feature of all of these box sets to date.
The Beatles are the greatest band in history and deserve to have their entire output presented in a high resolution audio format and on a PHYSICAL disc medium, not just as an ephemeral download.
Fans had resigned themselves to the fact that if the only way we were going to get The Beatles in hi-res audio was via an expensive box set once every year, then so be it and we supported Apple/Universal with these high priced deluxe sets. But now it appears we’re not going to be getting our Blu-ray audio disc any more.

The price and method of release is dreadful but Apple know the hardcore fans will buy it, well many but some won’t as it’s far too expensive for what you get. Should be remembered tho that Paul’s Archive sets are far more expensive than the Beatles’ releases.
I had no idea you could buy the hi-res separately – not interested and will stick with downloading the tracks from Amazon or somewhere and hoping a copy of the book appears somewhere.

Actually, i’d rather apple had just made the new “revolver” a 3 disc thing much like the 3- disc “piper at the gates of dawn” EMI put out a while back.
Disc 1 – The album and associated 45s/ b-sides.
Disc 2 – The album in its original mono mix.
Disc 3 – Outtakes and unreleased stuff.
You could make a nice wee box set out of that at much, much less than the new set thats coming out.

What a depressing bunch of outtakes. Apple continuing the program of “beat the bootlegs” I see. The cynicism of throwing in already-released material just bangs in that final nail for me.

That’s a fair point to raise. If it was a comprehensively complete collection of everything from that era I could swallow getting already released material again, but that’s not the case.

Though it should be noted that the majority of the outtakes that have previously appeared on Anthology 2 are extended here with extra audio at either the beginning or end, sometimes both. I think it premature to criticise their inclusion before hearing what’s been added to them. With the only one we have so far, Tomorrow Never Knows [take 1], I prefer the longer edit with the extra Lennon silliness at the end to the version on A2. The new edit of TNK [take 1] has already replaced the A2 edit in my chronological Beatles playlist, and I’m expecting that to be the same with many of the outtakes that were released on A2.
And, @castironshore, I’m with @KyleKartan in finding all the criticism rather boring, and agreeing that if you don’t like it you don’t need to buy it. Both are equally valid opinions, the criticisms and disagreeing with those criticisms. Both viewpoints should be represented here, and it should never be suggested that those who disagree with the criticisms of what’s coming our way exclude themselves from the conversation, no more than it should be suggested that those who want to criticise should stop and take part in other threads instead. You’re free to criticise the product, I’m free to disagree with your criticisms. Yes, there are plenty of other conversations on the forum, but this conversation shouldn’t only be open to those who want to complain about what we’re getting. kk’s opinion, my opinion, should be as welcome here as yours and others complaints about it.

Well if you find all the criticism boring why haven’t you said anything about it in the previous 5 pages ?
Of course as Beatles fans we are going to criticise, complain and speculate about the content. Otherwise whats the point of the thread ?
I just find this “if you don’t like it don’t buy it” argument facile and insulting. I’m not a child for gods sake, i know i’m free to purchase what i want, i don’t need to be told that by someone i don’t know on the internet.
And he didn’t say that he found the criticism boring in his post, which just made it sound even more like he was having a go. And frankly it’s starting to sound like you are constantly having a go at me too.

I responded to meanmistermustard’s complaints about the set in post 22 @castironshore. I see no reason to keep on giving roughly the same response to roughly the same complaints. I said what I had to say, and haven’t seen any new angle on complaining about the set that I’ve felt worth commenting on. That I would also find to be boring. And boring is my description, not kk’s.
Today I felt it worth pointing out that many of the A2 tracks included in this set differ from their A2 release.
I promise my responses are never personal if critical. Had anyone posted the line “If you don’t like that, theres plenty of other discussions,” I would have had the same response. I have no problem with the rest of that post.
As an aside, why quote in full the post directly above your response to it. Has people scrolling through the same post twice, which may not be too annoying on a PC or laptop, but can be if on a phone. And in case you think that’s personal, I made the same point to kk not so long ago. And you’ll see I feel no need to quote your post because I know it’s .

Yeah but in the post you reference you don’t sound bored with the criticism of the set, on the contrary you are debating quite happily about its merits or not as the case me be. You are hardly telling the poster to just “not buy it if he doesn’t like it”.
Then you come out with
“I’m with @KyleKartan in finding all the criticism rather boring, and agreeing that if you don’t like it you don’t need to buy it.” But he never said that he found the criticism boring, thats your words not his. If he had i wouldn’t have said anything in response because it wouldn’t have sounded like he was shutting down debate….. And i know how annoyed you get with people being misquoted from previous discussions you have leapt on involving me.
I’ll quote whatever the hell i like as well, its not a particularly long post. As far as i can see you aren’t a moderator on here.

Well, mmm’s was the first criticism of this set, @castironshore, and was worth a response. The further criticisms have been variations on what mmm said, and my lack of response to them is an illustration of my boredom, and my not seeing the need to keep repeating myself. Am I meant to have posted “Boring, already been said!” after every critical post?
And I have already said that boring was my phrase, not kk’s.
No, I am not a moderator, but Joe has always had the attitude that he has no problem with us plebs commenting on issues we see, that it isn’t all down to the mods. Should you feel I am responding unfairly in any way to your posts then I have no issue with you reporting any post of mine that you have issues with to Joe and the mods, and I will take on board whatever they say if they find me at fault.
Perfectly happy to have my responses to you judged by Joe and the mods if you think I am out of order and am singling you out with critical comments I wouldn’t be making to others.

Well no, you only did it coincidentally after mine, to start a row after a poster was rather rude to me.
Your input throughout the thread sounds anything but bored, in fact the thread was full of lots of interesting comments on the box set including from yourself and you are engaging with pretty much everyone. You don’t sound bored at any point 70 posts later.
I’d rather you just put me on ignore, than involve moderators. Im finding your interventions tiresome and needlessly trivial.

All that aside i’m still quite excited about the set, i haven’t decided whether i will buy it or not yet (times are pretty tough at the moment and by any measure they are asking for a lot of money) but i would have liked to have debated what i think should be on there, what is on there and what could have been better value without being told basically to shut up and “you don’t have to buy it if you don’t like it”. But that seems to be OK.
On the other hand suggesting someone who is bored with the debate tries another one isn’t OK.
Aye, very good…. I’m done here.

I think you’re overdoing it a little. @Ron Nasty wasnt insulting or rude to you at all IMO. And I didnt reffer to you to with my remark but to the overall complains of the content. And I just told you my philosophy: if I dont like it I dont buy it.
That didnt mean that we cant discuss what they could have or should have included in terms of BTS and Outtakes. Nobody ment to shut that or you off.
So….
