Revolver is my favourite album cover art. Two Beatles albums are in my top five – Revolver and Abbey Road (had to be 🙂 )
Voormann’s Aubrey Beardsley influenced monchrome work is absolutely perfect, Sgt Pepper ‘s is way too gaudy and the White Album too minimalst.

…Genesis Publications will publish Revolver 50: Grammy Anniversary Edition, a signed, limited-edition, “enhanced version” of its book Revolver 50. The book celebrates Klaus Voormann’s award-winning artwork for the Beatles’ album cover. The publication is limited to just 500 copies. The book and original drawing boxed set will be available on March 2.
The 156-page book tells the story of the making of the collage, and each copy will come with a signed original drawing by the artist, a one-of-a-kind artwork, from a selection Voormann has curated exclusively for this anniversary edition.
In 1966, when the Beatles released Revolver , Voormann’s black-and-white cover artwork became instantly iconic. It went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Cover—Graphic Arts on March 2, 1967, the first time for a rock and pop album.
In Revolver 50, the story of the album cover is recounted in the style of a graphic novel, starting with Voormann meeting the Beatles in the Reeperbahn in Hamburg, visiting them at Abbey Road to listen to Revolver during the album’s production, and the ultimate reaction of the band to his finished design. The book offers insight into the making of the cover with new artwork and photos, a foreword by Paul McCartney , an introductory letter from Ringo Starr and contributions from Mike D’Abo of Manfred Mann and Professor Lawrence Zeegen, Dean of the School of Design at Ravensbourne.
Revolver 50: Grammy Anniversary Edition will be released as 67 deluxe copies and 433 collector copies. Deluxe copies will come with an original artwork in an 18.5 x 18.5” frame, while the Collector copies will contain drawings of varying sizes, placed within a 12 x 12” record-sized mount, suitable for framing. All 500 copies will include a signed, limited edition version of the Revolver 50 book, with gold foil blocking, gilt page edges and encased in presentation boxes, along with a special Grammy Anniversary 12-page commemorative booklet.
In addition to Revolver , Voormann has designed album sleeves for many artists, including the Bee Gees, Ringo Starr and Sonny Rollins, and has played on many of the Beatles’ solo projects. He took part in the Concert for Bangladesh, was a member of the Manfred Mann band and was a founding member of Yoko Ono and John Lennon ’s Plastic Ono Band, as well as contributing to numerous recordings, including Randy Newman, Lou Reed, Ravi Shankar and Carly Simon. In 2009, Voormann celebrated his 70th birthday by releasing his own album, A Sideman’s Journey, featuring various musicians he has collaborated with over the years, such as Paul McCartney , Ringo Starr , Dr. John and Joe Walsh.
About the Revolver book, Voormann says, “I opened my graphical ‘treasure box’ and made 500 original drawings available for the Grammy Anniversary edition of my book. Each collector and deluxe copy is unique and makes you the owner of an original Klaus Voormann artwork.”
The book is sold exclusively via revolver-book.com.

^^^ Wowowowow!
But, I haven’t started working yet, though, and I already have the regular edition of Revolver 50…
…I’m afraid I’ll have to pass on this one.

Heyya,
I know this is an old topic, but I couldn’t find it mentioned anywhere else but here, feel free to move if I missed it. I’m hoping someone here, given how smart y’all are, can help me out. I put a copy of Revolver Birth of an Icon in my shopping cart only to discover it’s only in German, which is useless to me given I can’t speak or understand the language. Is this only available in German? Everywhere I’ve checked only has it that way.

That was a little tongue-in-cheek, @PauliesGirl.
However, @AppleScruffJunior is working on translating another Voorman book from a German-only publication, and she may well be interested in doing the same with the Revolver book.
However, she may not need to do so. Looking at the book on Klaus’ site, the description of the edition there is “bilingual german/english”.

(I do have a Klaus chapter done, I just don’t have it sent out for reasons unknown to myself 😉 ).
Good news on the Klaus book in July and August I am essentially doing nothing but working for a few hours in the week so I will be a good child (I swear) and finish it. It does take me minimum 15 minutes to do a page and there is 321 pages which is 4815 minutes/80 hours MINIMUM so you can understand why it’s taken me *cough* two years to get this thing done.
I am also interested in translating May Pang’s book which was only released in German strangely so after ‘Warum spielst du…?” I’ll go onto that.

@PauliesGirl, I have Birth of an Icon myself, and I can assure you that (like RN said) it is in both English and German.

I have trouble with that one, too… I’m pretty sure it’s John, though.
This was posted in the other Revolver thread about cover art:
http://www.iheartklaus.com/rev…..lver2.html
So I’m not the only one who has a hard time drawing George! I feel so much better now.
Did I mention this is my favourite album cover EVER? I could write an essay on it. I’ve stared at it till I was blue in the face and I still discover new things every day… kind of like the Beatles’ music.
I found this. Can anyone verify? @Ron Nasty

Not a fan of the Revolver cover.
Just me…….I’m struggling to think of any album cover I do like…….By anybody. Oh, I recall thinking the first Santana cover was neat….But that’s just because it was a clever optical illusion.
It’s official………I’m a cretin.

I was going to say what my favorite part of the cover is but then I realized I couldn’t pick one.
