I don't think it was one of the first- “Strange  Fruit” by Billie Holiday came out long before, and of course you've got Dylan making his protest songs. Interestingly enough, I've read comparisons between “Taxman ” and “Sunny Afternoon” by the Kinks. Musically they are very different, with Taxman being very guitar based and heavy, and Sunny Afternoon sounding slower and almost jazzy. But lyrically they both criticise the high taxes imposed on the rich in England. I love them both! a-hard-days-night-george-8

How about we stop arguing over our opinions on certain songs and continue talking about the great album Revolver instead? That's what this thread was originally for anyway.

Do I count as no one? I guess I might because I counted all of Side Two except “Doctor Robert ” and “Got To Get You Into My Life ” as well as “She Said She Said ” as my favorites.

By the way, your nickname caused an enormous singing fest in my house.

I've liked those.

Wait . Those were trashed?

I get “Yellow Submarine ” and “Maxwell's Silver Hammer,” but “Octopus' Garden?”

And Your Bird Can Sing is my second favorite on the album. So I kind of feel the same way, but Here There And Everywhere gets to me a bit more than that one does. But the first chorus is the little box on the side of my Facebook profile.

Btw, welcome to the forums! Hope you enjoy it here.

You just needed to turn left at Greenland.

I've just listened Revolver today and… I just can't decide on my favorite song. It's hard to choose. So I'll go one by one. George……. Taxman . Paul… Eleanor Rigby . John……. Tomorrow Never Knows . But I could easily say Love You To , Got To Get You Into My Life and I'm Only Sleeping.

Damn it. It's impossible. Why do you make me choose?? I … just can't!!! paul-mccartneypaul-mccartney

Yeah, I was reading this music blog and it listed the 'worst' Beatles songs. Octopus's Garden was on their for its 'childish' qualities. Maybe it's not as deep or as complex as “Tomorrow Never Knows ” or “Strawberry Fields Forever “, but it's still a great song and certainly not their worst! My favorite Ringo song of all time!

Plus I love the backstory. Ringo was on a boating trip, and somebody told him how octopus's make gardens out of shiny objects, which caused him to exclaim: (and I'm paraphrasing here) “That's the happiest thing I ever heard!”

I noticed that Dr. Robert is some peoples least favourites, and I would probably agree except the “well well” part with the harmonium really brings it up so I quite like it.

Totally agree – those harmonium bits really make the song for me, too!

I think my favourite is probably “She Said She Said ” for now, although it could be toppled by any of 4-5 others at anytime.

GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

I think the whole album has that “sunny day” feeling to it. And not just because of Good Day Sunshine .

To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Well, all of the songs except “For No One “-that one's a bit of a downer. And “Eleanor Rigby “. But those two supply some nice contrast.

yeah. yeah. I agree to pretty much everything that was just said. It just has this aura about it, and it's got attitude. The guitar work is lovely, everything's lovely. And the cover is the best I've ever seen. My guitar strap has the revolver cover all over it apple02OOOH look a half apple!
