Rumours are circulating the interweb that we’re getting a remixed Red & Blue set next. It would seem logical, would give them somewhere to add “Now & Then” when it comes out, and a set that could be easily expanded given how short a set it is.
It’s being said Peter Jackson’s MAL AI technology has been used to demix the audio, which would give us the first true stereo versions of Love Me Do and She Loves You , as well as including many songs we haven’t had remixed yet.
And if they do expand it properly, rather than just chuck Free As A Bird , Real Love and Now & Then on the end of the Blue.

Personally I’d have looped back to 1963 and remixed/reissued Please Please Me and With The Beatles this year. They’d have the wow factor of hearing the early songs in proper stereo, and since the albums get better over time it’d have more impact to start at the beginning.
I love the Red/Blue albums, but remixing them now seems like a strange priority, since we’ll get a lot of the remixed songs when they get round to putting out those albums again. But I guess they haven’t really cared about the anniversaries since the pandemic threw everything off schedule.

I expected Rubber Soul to be next as Giles had seemed to suggest it had remixed alongside Revolver .
I can see that, in the wake of the announcement of the final Beatles single, the Red & Blue do make sense as an expanded set to give it a home.
And if expanded properly, it could become a definitive career overview.

Less excited about this one, as I would prefer Rubber Soul . But I’ll see what they come up with.

I’d prefer RS as well. But lets see what they come up with a nice big CD/Bluray set of R&B combined with the new single definatly sounds like its worth a check. There has not been much from Paul and Ringo so far this year with the 1964 book beeing the biggest release so far. Nothing from the Beatles too. So I am hungry for more information about some new releases.

I couldn’t care less about the red and blue. I have lost interest in these reissues (I skipped revolver and let it be) and I would only be interested in Rubber Soul if the price is normal and the extra content is really noteworthy.

I’m pretty much in agreement with
Aside from a handful of tracks the ‘Blue’ album has already been remixed which takes away a lot of that for a start. The ‘Red’ album selections would need to be almost doubled in number to make it an actual 2 disc set (currently all 26 songs fit comfortably on one CD). As for the reunion material I’d rather that was kept separate from the 60’s/70’s material as neither ‘FAAB’ or ‘RL’ sound similar; to go from ‘Let It It’ to ‘Free As A Bird ‘ is a 25 year leap in all ways. Apple like their crappy 10 minute EP however so it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if that’s the presentation: a deluxe 5 CD edition where both albums as they are are collected together in one package with the bonus EP of the three reunion tracks added. All yours for £100+.
It still irritates me by the way that the ‘LIB ‘ set contains such pointless crap like hearing George asking if there is any cauliflower cheese. Considering how much material was available the ‘LIB ‘ 50th is terrible. ‘Revolver ‘ has a lot more positives but was vastly overpriced and the problems are very noticeable.

While still in the land of rumour, the reliable sources out there seem to be firming up on the details. Here’s the latest information circulating:
The release is expected in the autumn, possibly September, with Now And Then as the last track on the Blue;
Jackson’s MAL audio AI has been used on the Red, but there’s no word if it’s been used on the Blue;
and here’s the big one, they are no longer double albums, they’re being expanded to triple albums — which means both sets are being expanded massively, especially the Red.

If they include Now And Then they can’t really call it 1967-1970, can they? 1967-1970 Plus 1979, 1995 And 2023 doesn’t really have the same ring to it.

I don’t think they’ll mess with the title of the Bliue, I think they’ll probably just stick the Threetles tracks on the end as a postscript.
I do hope they add all the single b-sides, so we have all the single tracks collected for the first time, and I also hope the lack of covers on the Red is addressed.

It wouldn’t be terribly hard to retitle the blue one “1967-1970…and beyond” or something similar. And it would make further sense to include the two other ’90s Threetles singles there as well, to have them all in the same place rather than just segregated away amongst the first two Anthology volumes.

Can’t they adjust the names and simply call them the ‘Red’ and ‘Blue’ albums or go for Purple and Orange or whatever? I presume the two disc original albums will still be available and therefore there will need to be some way of differentiating them.
I like and prefer the idea of a singles collection with all the a- and b- sides (UK and US)* plus deeper cuts, including covers, to give a fuller overview of the catalogue – I don’t think anyone would argue that the 1973 selections were missing tracks that should have been included, especially on the ”62 -> ’66’ album.
If this was expanded would this then be more equivalent to the 1980 ‘The Beatles Box‘, which also had justifiable questions over some of the tracks included and not?
I genuinely hope these have sensible, affordable price points and not at £100+ for both
*Tho that may raise issues of what was released during the 90’s (BBC performances, outtakes and live tracks) which wouldn’t fit here.

My thoughts are that these will probably replace the double-album versions.
Less interested in seeing the US single tracks included, preferring a Parlophone-based approach, and not bothered if a few unreleased tracks at the time, either outtakes or BBC, are included.
I think it’s likely there will be a £100+ boxset including both sets along with a book, but I think both will also be released as standalones.

Would it not make sense to keep the two disc albums available as otherwise they would lose that stepping stone from the single disc ‘1’. Unless the two disc is kept as similar to the special edition (or whatever they were named as) set that came out for ‘Pepper’ etc.
I don’t really like the idea of deleting the original ‘Red’ and ‘Blue’ albums as they are so iconic, even if they do have faults (what compilation doesn’t?).

I don’t think it makes that much difference as a stepping stone from the single disc “1”; it’s a change from two double albums to two triple albums.
Given the short length of the two doubles, especially the Red, I just can’t see there being a market for the doubles after the triple discs have been released.
Maybe if they condensed the two into one double and called it “1962-1970”, but otherwise I personally can’t see the appeal of, looking at the Red, a 60-ish minute double against a triple that contains more and is much longer.
Despite the affection for the originals many of us have, including me, for them, I just don’t see them selling after the triples arrive.

So, what does happen with the titles?
This is probably more speculative than I believe most of what I’ve shared has been as the source for this has no track record, but it has been cited by one of the reliable sources, and so I’m gonna run with it: they’ve removed the date aspects of the titles.
They have also said that one of the ways they are bulking it out is by the addition of all the (original) single-only tracks that were not included on the original, and that Free As A Bird and Real Love have been cleaned up and remixed to join Now And Then at the end of the Blue.
They also have it as a September release, so we should have an official announcement by the end of this month.
With the Red and parts of the Blue going through Jackson’s MAL audio AI, I’m hoping it will be applied to the whole of the Blue.
Yes, I know we’ve already seen much of the Blue remixed in recent years, but it would give a glimpse at what might have been possible had MAL been around when they were being remixed, plus I’d like for all tracks to be approached in the same way technically.

Does that mean all the b- sides, I think all the a-sides were included? If three discs the Red would still require more tracks, unless it’s also meaning US as well. Makes sense to group the three reunion tracks together as having one but not the other two would be daft.

To me this all seems more fitting a concept around a track and trying to make it work than it’s been properly developed from a long term plan. I’d love to say this is the reason ‘Hey Jude ‘, ‘YKNM’, ‘Hey Bulldog ‘ etc were omitted from the anniversary discs but others have been too and I doubt ‘Only A Northern Song ‘ is appearing here.

Yeah, I believe it means the b-sides, mmm, but kept with the phrasing the source used. That would still leave plenty of holes on the Red to be filled — the lack of covers is bound to be addressed, while I think Olivia would insist that the absence of songwriter George be remedied, and then there are those tracks whose stock has risen and are now considered pivotal, like Tomorrow Never Knows .
It’s alright not to be interested, Bongo, but I think it’s somewhat disingenuous to suggest “It’s been done.”
They’ve never been expanded before, nor have they been remixed before, and certainly not with Jackson’s MAL audio AI, which is able to separate all the elements and mix anew, meaning we’ll have stereo versions of Love Me Do and She Loves You , as well as doing away with those early stereo mixes with the instruments on one channel and vocals on the other. The Red could show some of the biggest changes we’ve ever had to how that early stuff sounds.

Somewhere else on the net someone (not me) pondered the possibility that the third disc on the Blue could be an EP with the reunion tracks. I can see that being something Apple would do. Not sure what would be done for the ‘Red’ album but would help keep the ‘Blue’ set ’67 – ’70’ if the EP was some kind of bonus content.
The ‘Red’ album omitted so many key album tracks it would be easy to fill a third disc (the thinking being the original two discs can fit on one but Apple also like building these releases around vinyl), I’m not sure where they would go for another disc for the ‘Blue’. There has to be the multiple formats to drive up the sales so it wouldn’t surprise me if Apple put out the regular two-disc sets as remixed with the super deluxe sets being expanded (EP included) and costing a fortune – 5 CDs of remixed original material (simply ‘1962 – ‘1970’) and the bonus EP CD. There was all the talk and reports of ‘Strawberry Fields’ and ‘Penny Lane ‘ being inserted to the 50th ‘Pepper’ track listing but weren’t.
