This might be a fun read for folks that aren’t familiar with the Please Please Me session. I never get tired of thinking about that day.

Same. I’ve read so much about it from so many different sources. The article you posted ties the bow on a nicely wrapped gift box. Fabulous.

That blessedly, wonderful day. Paul’s perfectionism. John’s strong personality. The camaraderie. The determination. The love of music. GM’s guidance. And no Yoko to steal George’s biscuits.

Was listening to this album lately. And realized that didn’t skip any song on it. I love every bit. I love how it sounds sometimes garage, sometimes surf, sometimes punk, sometimes pop… but , of course, i love how they sound. Fresh and young and full of energy…

The diversity of this collection is quite staggering, especially considering that it was all laid down in one session…:-)

Indeed. Their debut album is very strong. The evolved as a band, but their early years are nothing to be ashamed of whatsoever. It’s amazing considering how quickly it was all recorded too.

I like Please Please Me but compared to such classics as Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band, The BEATLES, and Abbey Road , it’s nothing.

No offense, but that’s a crazy comment.  I think Please Please Me is the best debut album by any rock/pop band in history!  Yep, it is.  The sheer exuberance is fantastic, as is the singing.

If I were stranded on an island, I’d pick this over Sgt. Pepper in a heartbeat.  Sgt. Pepper , to me, is way overrated.  She’s Leaving Home is the best composition, by far.

I love Please Please Me !

If I were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring one album with me, it would be Revolver.

I just hope that I would have some means of playing it.  Ha ha!

I agree with this, expect the fact that she’s leaving home is the best song on Sgt. Pepper . Absurd!

It’s lightning in a bottle. Think about this for a moment. What would have happened to The Beatles if their debut album was mediocre and not that well received? Would have their career unfolded exactly the same regardless, or differently? It’s a big hypothetical but still interesting to think about.

Today is the fifty-fourthfifth anniversary of this album’s release. I shall be spinning it today, of course. john-lennon-salute_gif

Already spun it a-hard-days-night-john-6 though since I don’t listen to this album nearly as much as I ought to, I might spin it again later. paul-mccartney-thumb_gif

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8Now I’m no expert on math so I may be mistaken but: If you said that two years ago wouldn’t it be the fifty-sixth anniversary? Or am I misunderstanding something?

Thing that is great about the Please Please Me album is that like they said, they just recorded their live show or the songs they did live.

It is a very unique debut album.

as great as it is, I still prefer the follow-up ‘With The Beatles ‘…  in fact, you could say that just about each album here on up until the end got better…  that being said, they sure got outta the gate in a fury with this debut…  Ringo’s out of his mind on this album…:-)

Personally I think Please Please Me is the best out of their first 4 albums.  I suppose it’s the freshness to everything that I like.

I think more bands should record their debut album in one or two long sessions.

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Isn’t there a track that appears on With The Beatles that was recorded during these sessions?

(maybe Hold Me Tight , or It Won’t Be Long

Yes, they did many takes of Hold Me Tight before shelving it for the next album.

Surely that was one of the most productive recording sessions of all time.
