I love the whole “BOP SHOO WHOP BOP BOP SHOO WHOP!” in “Boys ” along with the “YEAH YEAH BOYS!” with Ringo just singing over it, I can just picture them in the studio recording that song let alone John singing in “Twist And Shout ” did he really sing that shirtless?? O////O

Either Anna (Go To Him)– for some reason I love John’s head-cold-voice (get it? Instead of head voice? Very punny eh?) or Ask Me Why . The harmonies make the song, especially Paul’s falsetto ooh-ing under ‘And I’m always thinking of you-hoo-hoo-hoo’.

Much has been made about Lennon’s performance recording Twist And Shout and it’s undeniable. @Von Bontee is on point about Lennon recording with a cold/sore throat. You get a preview of what’s coming in T&W with Anna. Anna was to be the last song they recorded that day… then they changed their minds and created a little musical history.
But I’m going to go with I Saw Her Standing There as well. One of the first songs they tackled, an original, a McCartney lead… a recipe for disaster!
But this song cooks! And I always thought I heard a little congestion in McCartney’s voice as well.

Re that thought, I’ve noticed a certain degree of coldiness in all the Beatles’ voices at one point or another.

John steals the show on Twist And Shout and Anna (Go To Him). But then again he usually does. It’s only recently dawned on me how great a song our Lennon really was.

BeatlebugI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I think @QuarryMan means ‘singer’, bloody typos
Anyway, I still like ‘Anna (Go To Him)’.

For me it has to be Twist And Shout or Boys . Although they are both better live, they are still standouts in the studio.
