Can anyone explain to me why I can’t walk into a record shop and buy Venus And Mars ?
Or at the very least go to ebay and find that EMI have a store and will sell me a copy of Wings Wild Life with the 4 bonus tracks on it rather than me having to buy a Japanese copy from the Russian Federation with the ink peeling off to avoid paying $80.
I note that MMM is on now – let me know what Apple gain from all this – I need a new set of non-inflatable rubber deck chairs!

It’s probably down to the upcoming (ie the year 2092) Archive releases, isn’t Venus And Mars scheduled next (and has been for months)? V&M is £19.99 on amazon.co.uk. Oh found a copy for £21.99 on ebay. Thank goodness i have this album.
Its daft that you can’t go into a shop and buy Wild Life new, i would have thought it was more sensible to have all his albums in store and available until the relevant archive remaster is announced with a release date.

Ah – we need sensible – so that’s why we can’t get them
Thanks for the link to the UK Amazon, I tend to hit the US site and forget that one (I wish we had one down here). I just ordered Wild Life (it cost a bomb, but looks genuine). The bonus tracks look an interesting lot. Now to track down Back To The Egg ….
I now have 4 Paul albums left to go (Speedway, Venus, Speed of Sound, Egg); my desire not to be paying interest on my credit card from here to eternity is warring against the desire to get the final push over and done with.

Glad you got Wild Life , let us know you’re thoughts on it as the album gets very different reactions from Paul fans. Hopefully you find the other four soon and at sensible prices.

Cheers – I think we discussed a few of the tracks on a different thread – I had it on LP a LONG time ago. For some reason I thought I didn’t like it much back then, but looking at the track listing I don’t know what I was thinking – I can hum 3/4 of them from ancient memory and like them a lot.
I also just ordered Venus And Mars with its bonus tracks, cost me around A$28 which is pretty good – around 16 quid delivered.
3 to go …

£16! Flippin’ heck, i wouldn’t pay that for any CD. Hang on, i can’t say that with Apple about.
So much is posted here it’s nearly impossible for me to remember who posted what, so much so i’m thinking of carrying out a draw for the End of Year Awards.

Well you won’t want to know what the last 3 cost me then – of course I couldn’t wait
Hopefully ebay cooperates this time and I get what I ordered.

Ha ha – we have our wedding anniversary soon so she claimed the dress was my gift to her. Now I can claim the 5 Paul CDs as her gift to me – sorted!!
Gotta love horse-trading of gifts.

I was recently in the same situation of not being able to find any Wings CD’s anywhere for a decent price, and I just purchased the mp3s of the albums I didn’t have–I think it ended up being 50 dollars total for the lot. I will buy the Archive editions when they come out.
I think they assume that people prefer mp3s to actual physical media, which is not always true.

i do prefer mp3’s to physical copies only when I’m out of the house, only because you look weird carrying around a CD player at school, and mp3s are portable. At home I prefer the physical copies like my records. Theres pretty much a good side for both of them.
And if you saw my love, I'll love her to.

I’d rather have the cds and that’s how i go normally but common sense comes into it. I could get all the uber-deluxe McCartney II songs for £22 (expensive sounding but only just over £7 per cd) or £70 (or whatever it was) for the box which i didn’t care about. Sadly now the download option for the uber-deluxe editions no longer exists. Why? Because they are idiots and would rather rip off the fans by making them pay silly money than having the music available. I know it comes with a nice book and lots of bits of paper but i didn’t become a Paul fan because of bits of paper, it was thru the music.
That reminds of another company who haven’t got a clue.
They make it far more difficult and frustrating than it ever has to be.

Having the physical stuff is where the common sense goes out the window for me – I guess this is the equivalent of many here keeping older versions of remastered albums etc when they could cash in on them
Those ‘last 5’ cost me 17 pounds each on average and I am fine with that to get them on the shelf. I have now bought around 45 albums – the plastic is groaning – but I oddly feel very relaxed that it is ‘done’.

That thought about the music was why I suggested in another thread that if it came to a financial choice between the Lewisohn book and the BBC Volume 2 – I personally would have gone with the CD. It is very nice to read about the Beatles looking through the records at nems and then playing some of the B-sides in their performances; for me it is even better actually listening to those performances.

I agree up to a point as altho the BBC recordings are remasters and meant to be better sources for the performances, at least for some, i already have all of them (bar the complete I Feel Fine outtake) so it becomes less essential. Tune In Deluxe moves ahead. Of course i’m such a moneybag for Apple i’m having to get the BBC volumes as well despite the initial disappointment at the tracklisting.
Normally the music comes first but there are always exceptions.

Have you seen the BBC2 back cover that parlance posted a Wogblog link to in the BBC2 thread? For I Feel Fine it adds (Studio Outtake Sequence), which implies it is what we already have.

Going by the running times on itunes the last I Feel Fine outtake lasts for 3 minutes 28 seconds whereas the bootleg material i have (from Unsurpassed Broadcasts) runs to 2 minutes 56 seconds (Studio Chat/I Feel Fine (False Start) – 49 seconds); I Feel Fine (single-tracked vocal) – 1:26, Studio Chat – 41 seconds). So there must be something more.
What it suggests to me is something like a drop in like we got with Eight Days A Week on Anthology 1 , hopefully meaning chat and a full outtake but its Apple.
There is a way to know as trcanberra has the cd.
trcanberra, can you inform us what the I Feel Fine outtake is if possible. Do you have the bootleg source to compare with? Surely with the cd out in Australia it must be uploaded to youtube soon, admittedly taken down promptly not long afterwards.

Vonbontee In “Misunderstanding Thread Titles”, Part 14 in a series – I figured this thread was started by one of you young kids, being raised in the age of mp3 downloads and clouds and Spotify being literally unfamiliar with the concept of a record being “out of print”! But I guess there’s no need to explain it after all…
But at least I can still add my own additional thought about how I’ve always hated having to apply the phrase to unavailable recordings in the first place, since they aren’t exactly PRINTED, are they? “Out of press” or something would make more sense.
