Beatles Examiner reports that a new compilation is being released on itunes only today (Tuesday 24th July). Its called Tomorrow Never Knows with the description being the “most powerful rock songs spanning their entire trailblazing and influential catalog.” There are no new songs or versions, all previously released with one being from Let It Be Naked and another from Anthology 3 .
The tracklisting is
1. Revolution
6. I’m Down
7. I’ve Got A Feeling ” (“Let It Be .. Naked” version)
11. She Said, She Said
12. Hey Bulldog
14. The End ” (“Anthology 3 ” version).
Suppose there is no harm in it but if you have the songs no point in buying it, just form a playlist.

Sounds for me like the best beatles (hit) compilation of all time. This sounds awesome, I would buy it if I hadn’t got all albums and all songs on cd. I bought the Hey Bulldog video. Anyway I think it’s a good decision to take the naked version of I’ve Got A Feeling , the first verse of naked is amazing. The end if the anthology version of the end is also amazing (a long orchestra only part) but it misses the beginning of the end. Anyway anyone who hasn’t got all (or most) beatles albums, buy it, it sounds amazing!

Looks fairly pointless to me. I’m trying to figure out what common thread binds those songs together, other than the fact that *most* (but not all) of them have some fairly prominent, somewhat noisy guitar parts. (Not that I don’t love basically every song up there, of course…) If “powerful” was the key quality, where’s “Twist & Shout” or “Birthday ” or “She’s So Heavy”?

I saw it today on iTunes. Along with the album, they’re also releasing the Hey Bulldog music video, and for a limited time, you can watch it on iTunes for free.

You can watch the Hey Bulldog video on youtube so the only big thing is you can purchase it.
I dont get why Savoy Truffle is there – apart from ensuring George gets a song. And yes if they are going for loud guitar songs then I Want You should be there and possibly I Feel Fine due to the opening feedback. Its good its not a collection of greatest hits.
I dont know where i stand on this, it doesnt do any harm and may open the cannon to those who dont have many of the songs but there is so much in the vaults that they have not and probably are not prepared to release. My only concern is if it became something like Elvis’s catalogue where there are 40 trillion compilations.
Comes back to the ‘give us something new please’ begging, you know the promos, live concerts, demo’s, (dare it be mentioned) Let It Be movie, outtakes, basically anything which isnt yet out there.
Magical Mystery Tour was rumoured to be scheduled for reissue later on in the year but all noises have faded into silence for the moment.

Yeah, Paperback Writer and Revolution stand out by being the only singles here.
2 songs from YS, nothing from Pepper…crazy collection all around!

What’s the harm of doing this, tho? Where, and for whom, is there anything bad about introducing another way for non – hardcore fans of the Beatles to buy 14 great songs? Where?
I have no problem with the notion of introducing non-hardcore fans to deep cuts. My issue is that the songs themselves could’ve been chosen more logically – or plentifully, the whole thing being barely 40 minutes worth of music. (What’s the point of choosing 14 songs anyways, other than that being the “traditional” number of songs on a Beatles album?) If they were trying to avoid hits, for example, why not “Rain ” instead of “Paperback Writer “? Etc.

There is no harm in it Sun King , my only concern is if it ended up with how it was in the mid to late 70’s and early 80’s when we had love songs, ballads, Rock And Roll Music , reel music, 20 greatest hits. Its fine for the newbies but what about the oldies?
There would always be a debate over any compilation, people dispute the red and Blue Album tracklistings. Dont see the point in While My Guitar as it wouldnt be a deep cut since its so well known., tho the same could be said for Revolution .
And having relistened to the Naked Ive Got A Feeling thru this i dont like it, just sounds wrong with the different vocals in parts and the mix is off.

Actually, the more I think about this, the more I realize how cool it’d actually be to be hearing most of these for the first time! The Beatles as psychedelic/hard rockers exclusively…interesting. If it was expanded to 20 tracks/1 hour in length (with me being allowed to tweak the track listing, of course), I’d like it even more.

Well, SOME of their harder-edged songs anyways. But it’s also got stuff like “Savoy Truffle ” which hasn’t much of an edge at all. Where’s “She’s So Heavy” and “Me and My Monkey” and other songs with atonal guitars and titles too long for lazy me to type in full?
BTW, welcome Satanhimself! Have you Introduced Yourself yet? (As a man of wealth and taste?)

That’s hilarious – that you and I have basically switched opinions! You start liking it less as I start liking it more…anyway, at least we agree it could be better.
