OK, I just wanted to know if any of you have heard the stories behind the phone number on the front cover (the word BEATLES in yellow stars directly above the pic of the band).
Apparently,if you hold a mirror up to the word BEATLES,a phone number will appear. There are a few stories attached to this. If you answered it:
1) A voice will answer, with the phrase “you’re getting hot,Jack” (if your name was actually Jack, that would have been creepy as hell!)
2) An old lady would answer, and complain that you’d woken her from her sleep
3) (and this is the most interesting one): someone would answer, and quiz the caller on Beatles trivia. If the caller got the questions right,he/she would be sent tickets to visit ‘Pepperland ‘ (wherever that is)
I saw a few videos on this, and there was a story that 2 American students won these tickets, and when they received the envelope through the mail, there was a notice attached, telling them to lick the envelope, which, unknown to them, had been laced with LSD. One of the students did, and apparently committed suicide by jumping out of a balcony window while under the influence of the drug.
When his friend was interviewed by the press, he was asked if he’d ever visited Pepperland before,he refused to answer, and just laughed. He wouldn’t answer any questions about the whole thing, which to me is perfectly understandable. His friend had just died after all, and he was probably very shaken up.
(By the way,if you try to ring the number today, it’s out of service)
Has anyone ever heard this before?

Never heard that bizarre story before…I did read somewhere (possibly Nicholas Schaffner’s “Beatles Forever”) that during the PID affair, it was rumoured that dialing the “phone number” would supposedly connect the caller with a secret source for info about Paul’s death, but that’s the only thing I’ve ever encountered that even alleges that the word spells out a number.

Yeah,I’ve heard that, about the PID clues. There was even a rumour that you could speak to the spirit of Paul by dialling the number. Crazy. The story about the 2 students,I saw that on a YouTube video, and if I can find it again, I’ll post it here so you can watch

Post it if you wish, Father Mac, but please don’t do it for my sake! I wouldn’t bother to watch it…I wouldn’t think it had any credibility at all.

Oh,I don’t believe it. I was merely posting about the stories and theories behind the phone number, it’s just when I got to the bit in the vid about the students,it genuinely shocked me. I didn’t expect that at all.

This is completely made up. No doubt about it.

Yeah probably. Probably just made up for dramatic effect. I’ve Googled it, and can’t find it anywhere. Something as serious as that would be reported somewhere surely?

It doesn’t make a phone number. What are the numbers besides 2, 3 and 8?
There are a few guesses on here (you need to scroll down a bit):

I read that but not in Shaffner’s book, it was one specifically on ‘PID’. If I remember correctly the voice was meant to sound very much like John’s.
