11. Baby You’re A Rich Man – I just cannot get into this song. I can listen to it but I just don’t get excited about it.

10. Your Mother Should Know – Not a bad song but a bland recording. I wish they had of done more with the production then it could have been better.

9. All You Need Is Love – I like the message of this song but I don’t listen to it very often as I have to be in the mood for it.

8. Blue Jay Way – Creepy song but I kind of like it but I have to be in the mood for it as I can get bored of it sometimes.

7. Hello Goodbye – This is a good pop song but I have to be in the mood for it. There is a few songs like this on this album for me.

6. Flying – I like this song. It’s good to have on in the backround and a part of me wishes that it went longer. I know a longer mix is out there, hopefully we get an official release of it someday.

5. Magical Mystery Tour – This song proves as a good opener for the album/film/ep that it came from. Much like the title track for Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.

4.The Fool On The Hill – I like this track. I like the chorus and the recorder

3. Penny Lane – This song seems to have mixed reactions but I love it. I like the melody and the lyrics and how it tells the story of these people on Penny Lane .

2. I Am The Walrus – Great song. There’s so many things going on and it is an interesting piece of Wordplay from John Lennon

1. Strawberry Fields Forever – Another great song from John, possibly only of his best. Great lyrics and really interesting song arrangements.

And in the end the lunch you take is equal to the lunch you bake.

Top 5:

1. Strawberry Fields Forever – Possibly John’s greatest Beatles moment. Amazing on every level.

2. All You Need Is Love – A decade defining anthem.

3. Penny Lane – Love the classical elements.

4. I Am The Walrus – Weird, creepy and fascinating.

5. Hello Goodbye – love that ascending riff in the chorus, and Ringo’s fills about a minute in.

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Full ranking:

11. Flying – I really love the song but something had to come last. I don’t get why some fans put it down.

10. Blue Jay Way – Again I love the song but I need to be in the right mood to listen to it. It’s probably the weirdest and creepiest song in the Beatles discography.

9. The Fool On The Hill – Lovely song and fun to play on guitar. Might just be a bit too sentimental, i’m not sure.

8. Magical Mystery Tour – Great song but it gets tiring after a lot of listens.

7. Hello Goodbye – Another great song, again i’m just tiring of listening to it. It’s pretty overrated i’d say.

6. All You Need Is Love – Impossible to deny the significance of the song, it just gets tiring.

5. Your Mother Should Know – A very underrated song which is brilliantly written. I also love the scene in the film.

4. Baby You’re A Rich Man – A very very very very very underrated song. It has a great groove and the lyrics are clever and fun. Why a lot of fans don’t rate it is beyond me.

3. Penny Lane – One of Paul’s greatest songs. This was my favourite Beatles songs as a kid.

2. I Am The Walrus – John at his creative and wacky best. Easily one of the best Beatles songs.

1. Strawberry Fields Forever – A masterpiece and one of the greatest songs ever recorded. If you ever want to convince someone of John’s genius then play them this song alongside the lyrics.

"And life flows on within you and without you" - George Harrison

11 ymsk – my least favorite granny song…boring presentation of a mediocre  composition,  it’s depressing when it isn’t meant to be

10 MMT – GREAT presentation of a mediocre composition! All the little gimmicks and instrumental/vocal tricks work perfectly, making for an artificially thrilling opener with great bass and a totally random outro  (like much of the album) Only complaint: shoulda kept John’s original barker vocal

9. AYNIL- Title gets a little tiresome, but the lore of this recording is undeniable

8. F – I’ve never sat through those opening tremeloed chords without wanting to hear the whole thing…and of course its just a unique item in thw catalog in several ways…do wish the mellotron went on a bit and crossfaded into #6…

GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

7. HG – a little repetitive and too damn cheery but still a fine piece of craft. Great outro.

6. BJW – very unique instrumentation…don’t be long don’t belong don’tbe long don’tbelong don’tbelong

5. BYARM – John’s only psych gem of the era that wasn’t somewhat epic, and it didn’t need to be. Would’ve fit nice on Revolver .

4. TFOTH – great song, kind the light side of Sexy Sadie

3. PL – (possibly) the most beautiful song ever…very little left to say

2. SFF – even less

1. IATW – no you’re not said little Nicola

http://www.meetthebeatlesforre…..a.html?m=1

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

Yep, John’s strongest offering. Strawberry Fields Forever , I Am The Walrus and All You Need Is Love ? Wow. It doesn’t get much better than that. I love the album because it’s experimental like Pepper and Revolver . It’s just as good.

Personally one of my favourite Beatles albums, equal with Revolver and Pepper

1. I Am The Walrus – Nonsense lyrics and dense production make for one of the most cavitating Beatles tracks. Every member is on their A game and the psychedelic effects are the cherry on top. Its like a f****d up version of Alice in Wonderland

2.  Strawberry Fields Forever – This must of been so bizarre when it came out in 1967. Beautiful, haunting, daring is only a few words to describe this track. Ringo’s syncopation and fills are so good on this track, my god

3. Your Mother Should Know – I know what some of you are saying, I understand but the melody is so goddamn awesome that it would be a disservice to put it so low. The organ is so ominous and joyful at the same time. That Bass line is awesome. Pretty underrated. This song just makes me so happy, I can’t explain it

4. The Fool On The Hill – Great social commentary with a tasteful brass arrangement and one of Paul’s best vocal performances, whats not to love?

5. Penny Lane – That key change is the entire reason why this song is awesome. It would be good enough for the lyrics, melody or horns but that key change makes this track a home run. Awesome stuff

6. Hello, Goodbye – Gorgeous pop song by Paul and is quite well performed as well. Ringo’s drums fills are dynamite, another reason why he is one of the best drummers. Oh and don’t forget Pauls bass arpeggios, oh and what about George’s guitar riff. I could go on but it speaks for itself

7. Magical Mystery Tour – Perfect start to the album with great vocals from the whole group, McCartney shines with his bass fills in this one. This has always been a personal favourite of mine because of the structure and tempo changes

8. Baby You’re A Rich Man – Great sing a long song with a crazy Clavioline instrumental. This song just proves how tight The Beatles were as a band with the pounding drums and the melodic bass being particular highlights

9. All You Need Is Love – An anthem for the hippie generation and for good reason this songs message is timeless. The string and horn arrangements are just beautiful. I feel guilty putting it this low but there is a lot of competition

10. Blue Jay Way – Creepy and nightmare inducing is the best way to describe this Beatles track. I didn’t like this song initially due to the song strenuous repetition but it has grown on me. There is a flanger effect which really gives the track a serious punch especially on the drums

11. Flying – I hate to put this track last, it’s a great instrumental adding new instrumentation gradually with really interesting psychedelic effects but if I have to compare with other tracks it doesn’t have same compositional quality as the other ones. I still think it’s underrated though

About a year or so ago I tried to rank the White Album and now I’m in the mood to do something similar again. Of course this is a stupid task since Magical Mystery Tour is an awesome album with lots of great tracks and it just seems odd and profane to put a total masterpiece on number 3 or 4, but I do it anyway.

11 Magical Mystery Tour – Well, one song must be at the bottom, right? This was a hard choice, I actually like this tune as a bizarre intro to the show that’s about to get down, but perhaps that’s exactly its weakness. Overall it feels a bit too long and repetitive to me, and maybe it would have been better as a short intro song.

10 The Fool On The Hill – Ten is a dissatisfying number for this one, but what should I do? It’s a nice moody and psychedelic track with lots of beautiful harmonica melodies and once again a stunning McCartney vocal performance but it never hooked me completely, like many other Beatles songs do.

9 Flying Something else for a change, a charming little instrumental which isn’t too long, wonderfully builds up and makes nice use of wordless vocals.

8 All You Need Is Love – A classic but never been one of my favourites. I like the Marseillaise opening, the famous refrain and the long She Loves You fade out. If I had to criticize something it would be the verses, especially the ones before the first refrain drag on a bit too long.

7 Baby You’re A Rich Man – The sort of tune one easily forgets about but enjoys it even more when coming back to it. Love the creative instrumental arrangement.

6 Your Mother Should Know – From here on every tune is a feast for my ears. The McCartney typical kind of uplift, fun and playful nonsense but with the possibilities of 1967, meaning the more diverse arrangement, sophisticated backing vocals and overall virtuosity. Always a pleasure to listen to.

5 Hello, Goodbye – The Kind of classic which is so deeply edged into your psyche you almost forget how awesome it actually is.

4 Blue Jay Way – No idea why it isn’t more appreciated. How can you say no to Blue Jay Way when you say yes to Tomorrow Never Knows and Strawberry Fields Forever ? This song is so beautiful, haunting, creepy and melodic at the same time. George was a psychedelic boss.

3 I Am The Walrus – It’s good. It’s so good. Why is it so bloody damn good? How can a piece of music be that funny, weird, dark, creepy, grotesque savvy and artistic at the same time? The way Lennon breaks up the song structure, the way he forms and performs phrases I couldn’t imagine in my wildest dreams… It’s so good.

2 Penny Lane – One of the most Beautiful melodies ever created. The feeling of nostalgia, happiness, dreaminess is so overwhelming. The flutes… The pianos… The vocal performance… wow…

1 Strawberry Fields Forever – I’m not even trying to make a statement about this one. I refuse to. It simply wouldn’t be posible because this… thing Lennon created is from another world and beyond human comprehension.

@Monkberry Moon Delight I completely agree about Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields. How are they so great?? I used to be so amazed that I would just stand outside and listen to them on repeat. I think it’s about time to go do that now…

Also I think I need to talk to you about your signature. brian-epstein

Strawberry Fields Forever 10/10 – A classic. Honestly every time that opening fills my ears it never fails to make me stop whatever I’m doing and fall slowly in a beautiful daze. It’s just a masterpiece, the lyrics, music, everything.

All You Need Is Love 10/10 – Maybe a little obvious lol, but hey, if you don’t end up singing along towards the end with your arms waving in the air, you’re lying ahdn_george_06

Baby You’re A Rich Man 10/10 – I always thought this song was underrated but I’ve always loved it! Love how you can dance around to it and how the whole thing sounds, just very psychedelic and fun.

I Am The Walrus 9/10 – Okay, this song might be sliiiightly overrated *ducks and hides* but when you really wanna hear it and take the time to really listen, it’s brilliant.

Penny Lane   9/10 – Beautiful and really charming and just a cute song. It makes me feel like i’m right there in the street, the whole song feeling like the sun shining in my face and the smell of the roses and bakery.

Flying 9/10 – Oh man, this is sooo underrated it’s not even funny lol. It’s a beautiful instrumental piece that really sets the mood.

Magical Mystery Tour 8/10 – Sometimes a little tad annoying, but most times really fun.

Your Mother Should Know 8/10 – I know quite a lot of people hate this song lol but I have a bit of a soft spot for it. I don’t know why, it’s just very pleasant sounding.

The Fool On The Hill 7/10 – Always felt a little indifferent to this song, but it’s still very good and heartfelt, one of Paul’s most interesting lyrics.

Blue Jay Way 5/10 – Scary and unsettling haha, but even though that puts me off it sometimes I gotta give it to George for creating a genuinely creepy atmosphere that makes a very interesting listening experience.

Hello Goodbye 3/10 – Never liked this song, in fact honestly it’s probably my least favourite Beatle songs. Ugh it’s just so annoying, and repetitive, don’t even get me started on that whack ending lol. mccartney-shrug_01_gif

2.) Strawberry Fields Forever

3.) Magical Mystery Tour

4.) Fool On The Hill

6.) All You Need Is Love

I also like the song Blue Jay Way . It’s a tune that gets stuck in my mind a lot and the lyrics are fun to sing.

Reporter: Beethoven figures in one of your songs. What do you think of Beethoven?
Ringo Starr: He’s great. Especially his poetry.
