What release of Magical Mystery Tour do you prefer, the double EP or the Capitol album, i prefer the EP because that’s how The Beatles intended it.

The Capitol…better value for the money and the most widely available copy preserving the 1966/1967 mixes (which, most of the international releases never had: once the all-stereo remixed version made for the German market in 1972 became the actual template for the worldwide “canon”; in fact, over the Capitol).
I will play the game Existence to the End ;)

To completely contradict my older self, i strongly prefer the US version for quite a few reasons:
1. Double EP’s are a terrible idea. You have to get up 4 times for a 19 minute EP. Adding Hello, Goodbye (which was in the film) and releasing it on a 12 inch at 45 rpm would’ve made much more sense.
2. The LP does adds 5 more tracks, pretty much the exact opposite of what Capitol did with Revolver .
3. The movie tracks are better arranged on the LP than the EP.
4. The LP has some of the best tracks from this era. Out of my 3 favorite songs on the LP (I Am The Walrus , Strawberry Fields Forever , Penny Lane ), only I Am The Walrus is on the EP.

Yeah that was something that I recently learned. The tracks on the EP are in a wonky order. The film tracks on the LP are in almost the right odrder apart from Walrus and Mother switching spots at the end. That gives the LP a point in my book. I also like the 5 non album tracks on the back. The LP is kinda set up like the AHDN and Help ! UK albums.

Aside from being what the Beatles put out originally, is there anything to make folk go for the E.P.? Unless you like the picture book.
