I have this interesting version of “All You Need Is Love ” Its because of the ending ends with all these Random songs mixed in like “Baby Your a Rich Man” “Rain ” “Sgt Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and it has the Violin ending from “Goodnight” with them saying a bunch of stuff at the end, It also ends with I think it was Lennon saying “Goodnight to yous All and God Bless Yes” Followed by some clapping and Laughter, is that the Magical Mystery Tour version??

That version is from the 2006 mash-up album LOVE, done by George and Giles Martin, @BenniChann . The speech at the end is from The Beatles’ Third Christmas Record, which was sent to members of the Beatles Fan Club in December 1965.

I just realized this now; Had side two of MMT wasn’t part of the Beatles’ official album canon than it would’ve been featured on Past Masters Vol 2!

All 11 tracks would have been as the other 6 were just an EP in the uk and would have needed to have been included somewhere – same as with the ‘Long Tall Sally ‘ EP.

Wouldnt have made much difference to the price of all the albums as instead of being 1 single album and a double it would become a triple. Would be more costly to buy those same songs tho as a you’d be paying £15 instead of £8 (admittedly you’d get another 35 however).
Tho looking at amazon its £19.54 to get the double ‘Past Masters ‘ on cd. The vinyl is £106.46.
‘MMT’ on vinyl is £22. Not sure how it can be an extra £84 for one more LP in the set.

If you do tho feel free to send me a PM, i can fake sign them on demand.

I don’t think anyone agrees with me on this but between the US LP version of Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band , I see the Magical Mystery Tour LP as the better collection of songs between the two. It seems like MMT is either overlooked or in some cases even scoffed at, or disregarded because it wasn’t made with the intention of being an album. Perhaps it’s because the lore surrounding Sgt Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band . . perhaps it’s because ‘Sgt. Pepper ‘ set such a high standard that anything following it just wasn’t going to have the same effect and to an extent I get that, MMT certainly doesn’t represent an advancement over ‘Sgt. Pepper ‘ in anyway but song for song I really don’t see how MMT can be overlooked

I think the problem many people have with MMT and how it compares to the other albums is that – though now a part of the canon – it’s a compilation album. It’s the MMT EP along with the remaining five 1967 single tracks. It is not an album that was conceived by The Beatles, and so comparing it to the albums that they went into the studio with the express purpose of recording an album doesn’t work for me. Otherwise, you can take any compilation album and say the compiler of that album created a better Beatles album than The Beatles did.
Sgt. Pepper is a Beatles album. MMT is a Beatles compilation. A very fine compilation, but a compilation all the same.

Agreed, it’s a compilation LP.
The Strawberry Fields Forever & Penny Lane single (Feb. 17) was released well before the Sgt. Pepper LP came out (June 01).
Same with the 2 other singles All You Need Is Love /Baby You’re A Rich Man & Hello Goodbye , were already released before MMT came out.

I mean . . I can see where it would be deemed a compilation album but The Beatles approved of the tracklisting for the US release, the songs are relatively from the same time and I would put it in the same category as a compilation release like Tomorrow Never Knows

I totally agree that MMT is a compilation that The Beatles approved, @Bullion. Because of the “Capitol” clause in their 1967 contract it couldn’t be anything other, just as Tomorrow Never Knows , or Yellow Submarine Songtrack , or any other release since 1989 when the court cases handed them back the same artistic control that the “Capitol” clause had given them.
However, their artistic decision on MMT was the EP. They then made a pragmatic decision about the US album, in that EPs had never really taken off in the US.
But your original point was about how a contemporary compilation was given short shrift against the album they conceived that year, to which I argued that they cannot be compared because they are two different kinds of beasts. I think Songtrack is a much more musically pleasing to me than YS, but YS is The Beatles album while the Songtrack is a compilation, and while I prefer listening to Songtrack, YS will always be the album that was The Beatles artistic decision for me. I may listen to Songtrack more, but I would never say it is better than YS because it wasn’t their choice to do it like that at the time.
Pepper was their artistic choice, the MMT EP was their artistic choice, while their agreement to, and approval of, the US MMT LP was just a pragmatic decision looking at the marketplace in which it was to be released. So I don’t think they can be compared. Examining their music as it was released at the time, I will always view the UK releases as their intent.

Just because the Beatles artistic choice was the ‘MMT’ EP or the ‘YS’ album doesnt mean its better, it can very easily be that their artistic decision was incorrect and subsequently improved upon thru a future release. If that is a compilation album then so be it. The Beatles werent infallible and sometimes they got it wrong.
