Offline Am I the only one who goes “blah”. No Pete, nothing truly new and more versions of I Saw Her Standing There , Boys , Kansas City , Roll Over Beethoven , Long Tall Sally . Whoppee doo. Where is the Pop Goes The Beatles theme or even I Call Your Name ? Is the latter not allowed because John messed up the ending? Its not a hard job doing a better job.
So this goes to the pick up when reduced section.

I’m with you guys. It’s a bit half-assed but it’ll be good for more casual fans or big fans who aren’t into bootlegs. I’ll buy it to have it and it’ll get filed on my shelf with the rest of my Beatles stuff, but not listened to. Thank God for Great Dane and Purple Chick!

Yip. When I look at it its even more disappointing. No The Night Before or Im Happy Just To Dance With You either (swap Im Happy… in place of Roll Over Beethoven and it makes it slightly better). Why the hell is Lend Me Your Comb included when we have already have it on Anthology 1 (and even remastered on iTunes)?
I’m peeved.

No doubt sound quality will be the reason for omitting the ’62 tracks but are they much worse than I Forgot To Remember To Forget? Actually no going by what Hobnail (not sure if I got the right bootlegger) put out. So for me it comes down to having to pay Pete royalties again. Even just Dream Baby, the first track they recorded for the BBC.
Whilst typing the thought has popped into my head that Memphis was one of the ’62 tracks as was Please Mister Postman and Ask Me Why . Might Apple do the right thing and include either of those? I’m not holding my breath. If so I will apologise.

Offline I have all the official Beatles releases, but no bootlegs. For the uninitiated, which are the essentiall bootlegs to own? And where’s best to find them? (At least, the live bootlegs, to keep my question relevent to the thread)

This is true, but the Beatles are hardly the only band who do this. Of the other bands I’m heavily into, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, etc…they all do this, too. That’s why I’ve got a massive collection of all of their bootlegs as well. You need to if you want to true, unvarnished story.

I have a ton of bootlegs (most of which just repeat the same material), but I don’t have the complete BBC recordings (or very many at all) to my knowledge on a bootleg.
The most boring bootleg material out there is the Get Back sessions. I have a gazillion of those tracks on my iPod and I’ve marked them all “skip when shuffling.” Still, I kind of want A/B Road.

Offline Yeah, I’ve got the complete Get Back sessions…it’s 96 hours (83 CDs worth!), literally everything from January ’69, and maybe 5% is listenable. It’s fascinating from a fly-on-the-wall perspective, but beyond that, it’s brutal. But the 10CD BBC session set is incredible. I listen to the entire thing at least once a year every year.

Offline Unsurpassed Broadcasts (on the Hobnail label) is a fantastic collection of the BBC recordings, I think its 12 discs with a bonus album but might have the numbers wrong.
Purple Chicks stuff is well worth getting (they covered pretty much all the pre-Ringo, concert, bbc, Get Back sessions (A/B Road), Christmas and anything else stuff) even tho a few upgrades have appeared since, as is Helter Skelters Back To Basic’s albums series which has only reached Rubber Soul so far (and that might be it considering he stopped just after completing his Pepper Rock Band project).
If you don’t want the 78 disc (or whatever it is) A/B Road Get Back material then Vigotone’s Thirty Days is a 17cd highlights collection omitting a lot of the monotonous jams, tuning, aimless riffs, never ending rehearsals, and dialogue.
Never Mind The Tremeloes … Here’s The Beatles is a great source for the Decca tracks.
Red Hot and Three Thirty Blues are fantastic for the Star Club recordings.

Are you paying for bootlegs? They are all over the net for free and its not like you can feel guilty for not paying a bootlegger.A lot of these releases are by fans for fans, they weren’t done for finance. Therefore all you will be doing is paying someone who has copied what he/she got for free. Truth be told a lot of the fans who compiled these get pissed off at bootleggers who are selling knock-offs for a profit (one being Helter Skelter ).
Anyway we digress from the topic at hand. Wogblog has the track details and no, there is nothing from 1962.
I suppose I should add a disclaimer and legal notice. Bootlegs are illegal and frowned upon, support your favourite artists wherever possible and tell yourself Apple are wonderful.

Offline ^I agree with your disclaimer. In my case, I own EVERY commercial release by ALL of the bands I collect, and then some. So they’ve already gotten (and continue to get) more than their fair share of my money 
This release seems almost an afterthought when thrown up against the books and Paul’s album. Seems kind of Out Of The Blue when what we really want is Let it Be to be finally released!

I’m mainly interested in this: I Feel Fine (studio outtake)
Correct me if I’m wrong, but AFAIK they only recorded I Feel Fine once, but the same version was broadcast twice, on 26 November and 26 December 1964. So is this completely new, not even on the bootlegs? I don’t have the complete BBC set, so I don’t know what’s in circulation.

Ha ha – good point. I’m so used to using CDs I just went into autopilot thinking “CDs”. Well, I’ve spent a small fortune on the Beatles over the years, so I guess I shouldn’t feel too guilty about bootleg or two.
Are there likely to be further official Live At The BBC releases I wonder? Certainly seems like the material’s there.
