Yeah me too, I’d love to be able to hear the rooftop concert without watching LIB .
i liked let it be, but i would love to see them as separate entities maybe peter jackson’s new project will release the concert on its own along with whatever he is doing (the remaster is part of it, but he’s also using unused music to make another movie).
i guess i should set up a signature soon? maybe?

One of the things that does annoy me about the rooftop concert was the setlist, with them playing songs multiple times to get the best possible takes. I appreciate that doing that is part of the process, but they could have done that in the studio, and not in their last ever live performance in perhaps the coolest setting for a live gig ever. I can only imagine how great the concert would have been if they’d included, for example, some of the numbers John performed live later that year, such as Dizzy Miss Lizzy , Yer Blues or Money (That’s What I Want). That would have made it a perfectly entertaining live album too.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

maybe that’s why they haven’t officially released it in full. just because it isn’t really a live performance and more of a live recording session. one day, i hope another popular rock band does a rooftop concert. imagine if AC/DC did a rooftop concert somewhere in the world, it would blow people’s minds.

*shudder* I’d rather that didn’t happen

i think the concept of a wellknown band doing a concert from a city rooftop is cool. sort of thrilling. sure, the first time it is done is more important than the second or third. but the concept of doing a concert from the rooftop without permit is so cool and mind blowing. maybe i just wish i could have witnessed the original but knowing i can’t, i’m subconsciously projecting that into the hope of seeing another band do it.
i guess i should set up a signature soon? maybe?

Then the Glyn Johns acetate that John leaked while in Toronto would be even more sought after than it has been…

@joshthenesnerd 13 September 1969 for the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival Festival, appearing as the Plastic Ono Band, their set soon released as Live Peace In Toronto .
It’s known that John took a Get Back acetate with him, which was soon airing on US and Canadian radio, with the first Beatles bootleg, Kum Back, straight from the acetate John had with him, hitting the shelves in January 1970.

i’ve been doing research on get back all day. i remember seeing this bootleg a long time ago, but i’m surprised i forgot about it. looks like kum back has the least amount of tracks out of any of them. (the original, the first 2 glyn johns versions)
looks like kum back still has teddy boy and adds in the walk, hasn’t dropped don’t let me down yet, let it be is the earliest in the album than the other three versions.
and it looks like the rocker and save the last dance for me are also gone as well. but the reprise is still there.
i like how it starts and ends with get back and its reprise
dig it and Maggie Mae are also removed, as are I Me Mine and Across The Universe .
this is a recording of an acetate. so, if i had to guess, this is either the earliest version or an attempt to scale it back to fewer tracks afterwards. and judging by how john gave it to someone in december 69, my guess is that it’s the earliest version that john had just kicking around for almost a year.
outside of the walk and the reprise, you could theoretically reconstruct this version making a playlist in spotify using the anthology versions and the naked versions.
i’ll put the track listings for the 2 glyn johns versions and kum back under the spoiler tag if anyone wants to try:
kum back:
side 1
1. get back
2. the walk
3. let it be
4. teddy boy
5. two of us
side 2
1. don’t let me down
5. Dig A Pony
6. get back (reprise)
glyn johns’ version 1:
side 1
1. the One After 909
2. rocker
3. save the last dance for me
4. don’t let me down
5. dig a feeling
6. i’ve got a pony
7. get back
side 2
1. For You Blue
2. teddy boy
3. two of us
4. Maggie Mae
5. dig it
6. let it be
8. get back reprise
glyn johns version 2:
side 1
2. rocker
3. save the last dance for me
4. don’t let me down
5. Dig A Pony
7. get back
8. let it be
side 2
1. For You Blue
2. two of us
3. Maggie Mae
4. dig it
6. I Me Mine
8. get back (reprise)
official album:

thank god most of the bootlegs are up on youtube. i found the walk as well as rocker and save the last dance for me (those last 2 were in one video)
i decided to try to merge the 3 glyn johns versions (kum back and the 2 get backs) into one playlist. using uploads of bootlegs for the ones that weren’t released, anthology for the majority of it, if i couldn’t find an anthology version from that time (One After 909 has an anthology version but it’s from the Please Please Me sessions) i would use the naked version, and if there wasn’t a naked version (which was only Maggie Mae ) i would use the official album version. the order of the tracks is basically the same as get back version 2, but i put get back at the beginning because i like the bookend with the reprise, then after that is One After 909 , then the walk, then the rocker, then save the last dance for me, then don’t let me down and continuing with the order for get back version 1 until let it be and then it’s I Me Mine and Across The Universe and concluding with the get back reprise.
if you wanna listen to it, here ya go: http://www.youtube.com/playlis…..FWjLfg4jEE

^that’s pretty cool!
Once you disappear down the rabbit hole of bootlegs, you’ll never reappear – it’s so much fun, and so interesting!
You’d probably quite enjoy the A/B Nagra Reels (aka Get Back session tapes) if you can find them (warning: large)

I’ve finally got my hands on them. if I go crazy from this, it’s your fault for telling me.

Yes, the repetition is a bit frustrating – like, a second take of anythng is forgivable, but THREE performances of “Get Back ” is at least one too many.
(And yet every millimeter of tape/film is special in its mere existence, of course, blablabla)

I do agree that I think it would be neat if a popular artist did a concert on a rooftop. Imagine being on your lunch break and a popular artist was doing a concert on a roof!
And in the end the lunch you take is equal to the lunch you bake.
