Offline I got it pretty recently, and I must admit I don't really listen to it. If I'm in the mood for Let it Be, then that's the album I put on.
Who knows, maybe Let it Be…Naked will grow on me.

Offline When I was kid my parents only had Let It Be …Naked, so that was the version I grew up with, and the one I prefer over the original. I think the songs sound better on it, but I wish they'd kept Maggie Mae and Dig It .

My favourite version is Let It Be … Naked, because I hate what spector has done to the recordings. And I like it that naked features no studio chat and i think that’s better, because naked (and also let it be, but not get back) should be mainly a straight album. But I wish they would have written in the booklet from which day the fly on the walls recordings are. I think I read when Child Of Nature was recorded, but I have no idea from which date the others are. Can anybody tell me, because I haven’t found anything in the internet

GeorgeTSimpson, you might check out “Get Back – The Unauthorized Chronicle of the Beatles’ Let It Be Disaster” by Sulpy and Schweighardt (1994,1997).
It’s a day by day chronicle of every recording.
If memory serves, on occasion the authors will say “and this is the version used on the final” album, but of course at the time the book was written they couldn’t know what would be used on “Naked.”
It would be a project to see if this could be figured out from knowing what was recorded when!

Can i add Doug Sulpy’s companion book “The 910’s Guide To The Beatles Outtakes: Part 2 – The Complete Get Back Sessions” (2001) to ITSWD’s recommendations. A whole load of ‘Get Back ‘ tapes were discovered after 1997 which Sulpy documents and you would need both as The 910 couldnt duplicate material from the earlier book plus updats and corrects the sessions.
Both are excellent and these books gave rise to the DDSI numbering system that nearly if not all Get Back bootlegs (eg Purple Chick’s A/B Road) now use to document the recordings (the updated numbers from The 910 if after 2001 to be precise).
Tho if you can track down a copy it may be expensive as its out of print.
Please note however that LIBN was released in 2003 and these books came out before that.
This site has most of the Fly On The Wall DDSI numbers. In case you dont know how the DDSI coding works its best to give an example or two.
Sun King /Don’t Let Me Down has the DDSI number 2.19. All that means is that it was performed on the 2nd January and was the 19th performance.
One After 909 is 3.45 so the 45th performance on the 3rd January (i wont say songs as many of the performances are jams, tuning and messing about).

Two of Us: Naked, I like that it features no studio chatter
Dig A Pony : Anthology: I like the All I Want Is start
Across The Universe : Wildlife (Past Masters ) I miss the girl’s and beatles’ backround vocals in any other version
I Me Mine : Anthology (I think the longer version on naked becomes a bit boring, and I don’t like the orchestra of let it be)
Dig It : Let It Be (There is no other officially released version but i like the bootleg longer version more)
Let It Be : Single version (I think in this song the orchestra is okay, because it is very quiet and it sounds better than the organ on naked and solo is better but I don’t like the spector version with it’s drum delay, no backing vocals, the other guitar solo and, the worst thing, the orchestra so loud)
Maggie Mae : Let I Be (I like the Fly on the Wall recording better, but it doesn’t count for me as a real version (the same counts for Dig It ))
I’ve Got A Feeling : Naked (It’s the best edit of the song I’ve ever heard)
One After 909 : Naked (Because It doesn’t feature this terrible Danny Boy song
The Long And Winding Road : Naked (I think it’s better than the Anthology one, because of the organ the solo and that lennon hits the bass notes)
For You Blue : Naked (Why did Spector cut out the acoustic guitar after the beginning?)
Get Back : Single (Past Masters ) (I miss the coda in any other version)
Don’t Let Me Down : Really hard to say but I think I like the Naked version a bit more than the Single version (Past Masters ) because I thinknit’s just a little bit better, but I like both versions almost the same.

Offline I’ve found a german book about the get back sessions and this tells where the naked fly on the wall snippets were recorded. One thing I also like very much about naked is the fly on the wall disc which features very rare songs, Child Of Nature and a get back with slide guitar!, All Things Must Pass sung by all beatles, the all new Because I know you love me so and fancy my chances with you together with many early versions of let it be and Abbey Road songs whcih sound very good, and it’s a good idea that they are so short, if they were longer it would be boring but they are just as long as it’s good.

Music videos for the ‘Naked’ versions of “Get Back ” and “Don’t Let Me Down” are also exclusively available on iTunes for download purchase and free streaming.
Taking the listener into the band’s initial session takes for Let It Be , recorded primarily at Apple Studio in January 1969, Let It Be … Naked is the stripped-down, return-to-live-takes album The Beatles aimed to create, free of added effects and vocal and instrumental overdubs.
“If we’d had today’s technology back then, it would sound like this because this is the noise we made in the studio,” said Paul McCartney upon Let It Be … Naked’s 2003 release. “It’s all exactly as it was in the room. You’re right there now.”

Offline Good to see its on itunes, would be handy if all the albums were available to download and i think we are just waiting for Live At The BBC , would be good to get a few bonus tracks for that.
I presume the extra audio is the ‘Fly on the Wall’ disc as originally released.

Offline For me the worst thing about LIB …Naked are the songs made up of composite takes, which takes away a little from the spirit of the entire endeavor. Ironically I just listened to my CD of this album yesterday afternoon

And don’t forget the vocal fix on Don’t Let Me Down , where they created a whole new overdub by flying in Lennon’s vocal from another take. I have to admit to not listening to it that often. Give me the original every day, for all its flaws.

Didnt they just take the 2 performances and switch to the other when John flubbed? I cant remember.
I very rarely listen to LIBN as i dont think its an improvement on Let It Be or adds anything to the recordings from that time period. There are a couple that are decent – One After 909 & Across The Universe – but for everything else i will go elsewhere.

Offline I could be wrong, but I remember an interview with the guys who did it in Mojo or Uncut at the time, and them referring to “flying in” Lennon’s vocal from another rooftop take. I took that to mean that they’d lifted just the vocal, rather than edit the two together. I’m not saying I’m right, just the impression I got from that interview with them.

Offline Let It Be film release 2013 maybe? Hasn’t it already been restored since the Anthology days and I’m hopeful Paul, Ringo, Olivia and Yoko will just release it, it’s not like they can brush it under the mat and pretend that everything was good and cheerful near the end of The Beatles

Offline The problem is that they dont pretend that all was cheerful and good at the time of Let It Be , instead they knew how miserable a time it was for all concerned and dont want to let people see that as it doesnt tie in with the wonderful, lovely, joyful, postive Beatle image that Apple protect and project so much.

Offline I have “Naked” on vinyl… Love LOVE LOVE it. I have a hard time listening to the originals of “Across The Universe , Let it Be, and Long and Winding Road” now because of it. I like it without the “wall of sound”. Also “Don’t Let Me Down ” is a great song.
The only one of the Beatles that would prefer the original these days would have been John, but in my opinion he only liked Spector’s style because John disliked his own voice so much and liked masking it. I wish John had loved his voice for how beautiful it truly was.

Offline I like the different, well more original, approach to Naked, but I’m just lazy and prefer to listen the original more. Its kinda like the Love album. I like the take and I’ll listen to it sometimes, but I rather listen to the original.

Offline Personally I would doubt Ringo cares either way, something along the lines of ‘its the Beatles v The Beatles, the music was great when we got past the business’.
George I cant see getting beyond how s**t the sessions were for him.
That leaves John and Paul and i’d go for a tie.

And I think it depends on when he was asked and his level of resentment towards Paul. It seems what happened to TLaWR was allowed to happen out of spite.
