Ooh yeah, I forgot about that! That’s the exact same sort of self-conscious gesture, with the fake “1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2” dubbed onto the “real” countoff.
Oh! And what about “To your mo-” BRANNGGGGGGGGEEEERRRRIIIIIIEEEERRRRRRR!!!

The 1, 2, 3, 4 intro of I Saw Her Standing There isnt from the released take, it came from Take 9 – which was officially released in its entirety on the Free As A Bird cd single. The actual song is Take 1.
I have no idea why i wrote that but ISHST has a count-in.
I dont think the Taxman intro was self-concious, more to do with it showing that the band were progressing in the studio with effects. Well thats how i see it.

McCartney got the stringless version of The Long And Winding Road released on Anthology 3 .
Yes, but that sounds horrible because there’s nothing to replace the strings. The Naked version is much better because the keys are given proper prominence.

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China? My point, which you chose to ignore, was that alternate versions of all 4 songs Spector changed significantly were already available and approved by Sir Paul.

As with Sgt. Pepper , this is the only other album I feel could’ve been improved upon given what was available. Here’s my own idealized version of the album:
SIDE ONE:
“Two of Us” [original Let It Be version]
“Dig A Pony ” [original Let It Be version, minus false start]
“Across The Universe ” [ideally — original Let It Be version at correct speed and minus choir and orchestra overdubs; but I’d also settle for the Naked version]
“I Me Mine ” [original Let It Be version, minus orchestral overdub]
“Dig It ” [this longer edit, faded in; also retaining John’s falsetto spoken bit at the end of the song on the original Let It Be album]
“Let It Be ” [original Let It Be version; the orchestral overdub here was actually the group’s personal decision ]
“Maggie May/Fancy Me Chances” [this version]
SIDE TWO:
“I’ve Got A Feeling ” [original Let It Be version]
“One After 909 ” [original Let It Be version, with the corrected opening chord spliced on from the Naked version]
“Don’t Let Me Down ” [Naked version]
“The Long And Winding Road ” [Naked version with the ‘Anyway, you’ll never know’ line from the Anthology 2 version spliced over the ‘Anyway, you’ve always known’ line here — I just think that line sounds better ]
“For You Blue ” [original Let It Be version]
“Get Back ” [Naked version bookended with the same chatter as on the original Let It Be version]

I think your let it be version is quite good, but I would change two of us with naked version, let it be with Past Masters version, I’ve Got A Feeling with naked version, For You Blue with naked version, get back with Past Masters version, long and winding road with anthology version with quiet orchestra and bass of naked version and instead of take off the orchestra on acorss the universe I would take off the tamboura. The other 6 songs are okay? Both the versions of Dig A Pony and Maggie Mae /fancy my chances with you are on let it be… Naked

Are they complete tho? Thought all of that Fly On The Wall disc was excerpts and snippets of dialogue.

Oh. Then fairly pointless to me when its lovely and complete elsewhere (i mean Maggie May/Fancy My Chances). File along with the rather pointlessly edited Not Guilty on Anthology 3 .

Let It Be … Naked doesn’t work for me because it tries to make Let It Be something it never was – a polished, professional, Revolver – esque album. It never was, and it never will be. Let It Be … Named is sterilized. It has taken the personality, charm, and enjoyment from the original. For an album that claims to be Naked (the original, way it was before Phil Spector crapped on it album), it comes across as a greater production job then the original. It seems so… forced. It presents Apple’s eternal quandary. It needs to get approval from all 4, so it must mess with everything to get approval. …Naked was a brilliant concept, that Paul and his engineers pooped on. Paul ruined it – he should have remastered one of Glyn Johns’ albums, or kept the dialogue and jokes that are on Let It Be . He created an album that doesn’t reflect the reality of what they recorded in January 1969 – which is a mighty shame.

mr. Sun King what you said about the Revolver -esque album is exactly what I love so much about naked. I know let it be wasn’t intended to be like this but it sounds awesome for me (and of course I understand if it doesn’t for others) Have you heard the get back glyn johns albums. For me they sound terrible and I have no idea why paul said in anthology he liked it. Glyn Johns used many takes of which better ones existed (Dig A Pony , I’ve Got A Feeling and Two Of Us )

I grew up with the Phil Spector ‘Let It Be ‘.
I’ve since learned about the changes, the early versions, the vision and whatnot…
I like the officially released version the way it is. I think had it been released as something closer to one of the Glyn Johns edits, it wouldn’t have had the emotional impact that it has today.
Say what you will about Phil Spector, but I think he managed to salvage the material and turn it into a whole which is greater than the sum of its parts.
Although to be fair… “Don’t Let Me Down ” really should have been on there. At least it was released as a single, so that’s something.

The thing for me is that I always hated Let it Be because of all what Spector did with the album. That’s why I love Lib Naked.
Of course I miss the intro of “I dig a pygmy by Charles Hawtrey and the deaf aids, phase one in which Doris gets her oats !”

Having heard the unreleased Get Back albums for me Spector saved the project from being only decent. Thankfully McCartney had claimed Teddy Boy as his own as the Beatles performance was average at best, Dig It was too long and bordered on annoying before Spector lopped nearly 3 mins off, it says a lot that a longer edit wasnt included on LIBN.
For what he was given to work with Spector created an album that somehow is a very very enjoyable listen (apart from ATU and TLAWR), much better than all the others.

Well, I wanted these versions of “Get Back ,” “Don’t Let Me Down ” and “Let It Be ” to sound distinctly different from their singles counterparts (ditto “Across The Universe ” compared to the ‘Wildlife’ version). And I definitely prefer the album version of “Let It Be ” to the single version. George’s guitar solo on the single version just sounds so mechanical. His guitar solo on the album version sounds much more soulful… and muscular. Plus, it’s got one more repeat of the chorus at the end, courtesy of Mr. Spector. Personally, I think replacing too many tracks with their Naked counterparts would take away from the album’s deliberately laid back, less polished feel. But that’s just me.

I think let it be has stronger song material than revolver, mainly because I don’t like all but one of john’s songs on revolver (which is strange for me because I think he clearly (and very clearly) dominated Rubber Soul (on Rubber Soul I don’t like all but one of paul’s songs)

We’re familiar with your opinions on John’s “Revolver ” songs. Your “Rubber Soul ” assessment is new, however. Do you enjoy even 50% of the Beatles catalog?!
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.
