For those interested in a deeper discussion of the classification of Beatles albums in to “periods”, here’s a thread for you.
And if you are interested in discussing your favorite Beatles period, here’s that thread.
EDIT: Since this post spilled onto the next page, a little explanation is in order. I put the links here to ward off a derailment of this thread. All in a morning’s work for a BB mod.

AppleScruff dropped us a line stating point of view:
Can’t say that I like Help as much as I like Rubber Soul for example, but I still love it! Love every song on that album except for Dizzy Miss Lizzy , but I think that’s mainly because I don’t like that it’s right after Yesterday ..
Same here. When I listen, I pretend “Dizzy Miss Lizzy ” doesn’t exist. Evil, I know! I have a LOT of patience With The Beatles : I avoid skipping songs whenever possible because I feel it’s disrespectful; but after “Yesterday “, I just can’t stomach “Dizzy Miss Lizzy “. If it were elsewhere on the album, maybe. I like ending my albums on quiet songs generally, anyway.
The Help ! album isn’t quite as bursting with vitality and Beatlefullness as A Hard Day’s Night … it does have some war-weariness… but it’s still good. I love ’em all, you know. I even like “It’s Only Love ” and George’s rather slight contributions, despite their respective authors’ low opinions of the aforementioned, because… well… I’m a .
Here’s the love for Help !:

I really like the song (‘Dizzy Miss Lizzy‘) but its horrendously placed on ‘Help !’. Take it away from there and its a really good song.

I don’t see a problem with a fast song like Lizzy, after a slow song in Yesterday . I also think it’s a great way to end an album on a high note!

I always feel the second side of ‘Help !’ is slowly coming to a lovely soft comforting end starting from ‘Act Naturally ‘, which really works, until my ears get blown awake by ‘DML’.

One-thousand percent agreed.
Dizzy Miss Lizzy is way, way, way down near the bottom of my list of least favorite Beatles songs, and probably most of that is due to its placement on Help ! and what that’s done to my ears over the years.
I’m not sure it would be completely salvaged by relocating it elsewhere in the track listing — I don’t enjoy too many of their cover songs anyway, and the lead guitar on this one in particular is just too shrill and annoying for my tastes — but at least maybe the song would be a bit more palatable if it didn’t follow right on the heels of Paul’s masterpiece.

Agreed, and it’s also not one of my favourites although I personally enjoy a lot of their covers.

Sgt Pepper and White Album are extremely overrated, Revolver is a bit overrated as well. Help ! Was their last truly great album other than Rubber Soul and Abbey Road . This album always ends up 6th or 7th on lists of greatest beatles albums, but I would put it up there top 3.

Help ! is one of my favourite albums of all time.
If Dizzy Miss Lizzy was moved to the beginning of side 2, then I would be happy. I would prefer a live version as I think that the studio take of DML is messy.

Help ! is a perfect album to heal a broken heart or to try to get over a girl that’s not destined to be yours. At least in my case. I always found it a sad album on one side.

I really don’t understand why they choose “Dizzy…” Instead of “Bad boy” which , in my opinion, it is much more better produced and executed than the first one…
but anyways, i tend to enjoy the tracklist in this album (being “yesterday” the only one skipped) , and it always cheers me up…
about George’s contributions to the album i like them much more better than, for instance, “tell me what yo see”…

Yeah, I agree.“Help !” is my favorite album. I recently acquired a Help ! LP, the Capitol release, dated 1969. I got it for only 30 bucks.
Welcome aboard LMHS71.
Unfortunately you only have half the great songs from the UK Help ! LP. The rest is just crap music from the movie on the Capitol Album.

I’ve always wondered how american fans felt when getting the soundtracks? They got new tracks yet only half of it was actual Beatles music and every song or two they got was an instrumental to sit thru.

They probably were grateful for the new album. There was no internet on which to compare track listings, so how would they know the difference?
Of course, I was only 1 1/2 years old at the time. You’d should wait for an answer from one of my older fellow Americans to see how they felt about the instrumentals.

They may not have known the difference to the UK album but they would still be able to compare to albums such as ‘Meet The Beatles’ and ‘The Beatles Second Album’ and know they were getting less tracks compared to those, and of course they had an LP with 7 Beatles tracks despite paying full price which was at least 4 Beatles songs less than the others (bar ‘AHDN ‘).

Myself I didn’t know the N.A. albums were different from the U.K. albums, until much later in life (late 70’s), and just thought it was great that there were all these Beatles Albums to buy with different songs on them, not realizing that Capitol was ripping us off by selling us more albums with less songs on them.
Like mentioned, there was no Internet to know this stuff.
