I think that’s a great list although I prefer What Goes On to Act Naturally because Act Naturally is a cover whereas What Goes On is an original song and Ringo even helped write it.
Yep that’s a fair point, I can see why you’d prefer it for that reason. I think from a song standpoint Act Naturally is generally more fun and less grating then What Goes On though.
Glad you approve of my list

1. Help ! (The only Beatles songs I’ve really got my friends attached to. They love it and sing it all the time)
2. Yesterday
3. You’re Going To Lose That Girl
4. Tell Me What You See (Never recently paid attention to this one until recently, and I found I really love it)
6. I Need You
7. I’ve Just Seen A Face (Makes me feel really happy)
9. You Like Me To Much
10. It’s Only Love (Love it, great tune, but not as much as the others on the album)
11. Act Naturally (Meh. Love Ringo on the track but I think the song’s idea is kinda dumb)
12. Dizzy Miss Lizzy (Love the cover, just not with the rest of the album, definitely think Yesterday at the end would’ve been better)

14. Dizzy Miss Lizzy
In hindsight it would’ve been wonderful if the album has ended with Yesterday , but I imagine The Beatles were aiming to end on a high. Unfortunately, their choice of song is poorly executed. 4/10
I’ve always thought this song was nasal rubbish. Lennon and McCartney can – and did- do much better. 5/10
10. Act Naturally
A disappointing drop in quality after Ticket To Ride . Sometimes you have to pity poor Ringo. He’s not the best singer and it’s amazing to think he’s managed to maintain a solo career over the past forty years. The song suits him though thanks to it’s country-and-western tones. 6/10
This song serves to remind you that while their wives were stuck at home, the Beatles were often sleeping with any woman they wanted. I like to think we’ve moved on from this sort of ‘accepted normaility’. It’s a nice song though, but with a chauvanistic subtext. 6/10
The weaker of George’s two songs on the album, but only just. 6/10
John famously hated this one, and it’s easy to see why. It’s perhaps not as bad as he thought though. 7/10
I prefer this song to I Need You , if only because it sounds better played on an acoustic guitar. 7/10
= You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away
I’ve never been too bothered by this. Much like I’m A Loser , it’s a substandard imitation of Dylan. I like the flutes at the end though. 7/10
This sounds like something Paul could’ve written in twenty minutes, but it’s still better than most things in existence. 8/10
After Tell Me What You See , this is a marked improved from Paul. The vocals during the verse sound as though they’re going to tumble into one another, which I’ve always enjoyed. 9/10
= You’re Going To Lose That Girl
A filler, but a brilliant one. I love the call-and-response vocals between the band. 9/10
1. Help !
One of John’s best songs from this period. Highlights include Paul and George’s counter-melody vocals and the apreggios at the end of every chorus. Sounds a lot like ‘Ouch!’ by The Rutles though. 10/10
Probably the best song on the album, and definitely Ringo’s finest drumming on the album. The segue into the coda is marvellous, thanks to Paul’s excellent lead guitar work. 10/10
By sticking it just before the end, it almost seems as if Paul was embarrassed by this song. He shouldn’t be because it’s excellent and justifies all the plaudits that come its way. 10/10
Overall rating: 7.4

1. Yesterday
It would be sacrilege not to choose this as best song on the album. It’s my sixth favorite Beatles song and a true masterpiece. It may be overplayed, but it is not overrated. (And that is really saying something.)
I love this song so much. It’s my favorite scene in Help . Paul does a splendid lead, John’s vocals are fantastic, and the middle eight(s) is otherworldly.
3. You’re Gonna Lose That Girl
Also a great scene in Help (It was you buzzin’, you naughty boy.) and an amazing song. Great percussion and great vocal.
This has always been one of my favorites. One of Paul’s best vocals, in my humble opinion.
5. Help !
Considering the time period in which it was written, it is very lyrically meaningful, and it’s an awesome song in general.
Great guitar and an awesome song. I spent a long time learning the words (and promptly forgot half) because I wanted it to sound just right when I played it in my head.
7. I Need You
A vastly underrated song. It was only George’s second self-penned song to be featured on an album, and it was my favorite song on the album for a long time. I love it.
8. You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away
Quite a funny scene in Help , and a very amazing song which I love very much.
9 (the magic number). Another Girl
A very funny scene in the movie, and a great song in general.
10. It’s Only Love
John didn’t like this song, but I don’t see why. It’s a wonderful song.
11. Dizzy Miss Lizzy
I don’t know why nobody likes this song. It’s wonderful. The transition from Yesterday to this can be quite jarring, and I think it wasn’t the best choice as an album closer, but I do like the . song.
I love the claves on this song, and it is quite underrated. It has more of a country feel to it than other songs on the album, but I still like it.
I went through a phase when I listened to this song almost nonstop for several days on end. It’s a great song. I love the piano at the beginning and end, and of course George’s voice is a dream.
14. Act Naturally
Ringo does it better than Buck Owens. It’s less of my style than the other songs, but still pretty good.
Love one another.

14. Dizzy Miss Lizzy – This cover could have been great, it’s just the guitar sounds awful.
13. Another Girl – A sloppily performed number without much inspiration behind it.
12. The Night Before – I just find the melody and Paul’s vocal performance on this one rather jarring.
11. Tell Me What You See – Pretty forgettable, but I don’t mind it when it’s on.
10. You Like Me Too Much – See above.
9. Act Naturally – One of the songs best suited to Ringo’s voice, he does a fine job at this one.
8. I Need You – Another inoffensive early George song – nothing special, but still very pleasant.
7. You’re Going To Lose That Girl – Slight element of dissonance here which is really satisfying.
6. Help ! – I would love to hear a more downbeat version of this like John originally planned, but I like this version too.
5. Yesterday – A flawless, timeless masterpiece. There’s a reason it’s become so iconic.
4. I’ve Just Seen A Face – A very unusual song given the arrangement of the intro and the speed at which it’s performed, but a lovely sentiment.
3. It’s Only Love – John’s most underrated vocal performance, he sounds absolutely great on this one.
2. You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away – Love the Dylan vibe here.
1. Ticket To Ride – Definitely a very forward thinking song. The riff is very clear and ringing, the vocal harmony is searing, and the drums are awesome.

You may not know, but The Night Before is one of my all-time favourite Beatles songs. The harmonies of “ahhh the night before” and Paul’s vocals are great, but what makes it for me is John’s electric piano throughout the song. This never fails to cheer me up. Just so damn catchy.
