I’ve been going through some old cassettes of mine and found a recording of Help ! that I made in 1986 from vinyl. The track listing is very different to any I have been able to find on the web so far, so wondered if anybody may know about this version? It’s possible that I muddled the sides up but unlikely since I was always fastidious about such things.
Side 1
1. I Need You
2. Another Girl
4. Yesterday
Side 2
1. Help !
2. You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away

Are you sure you ripped it off vinyl because that’s the tracklisting of the UK cassette/8-track release.

All Beatles albums except ‘Pepper’ had cassettes with altered track-listings before the albums were standardised in 1987. I put a collection of most of the UK albums together in the 90’s which I still have.
@PaulTheDosh, a website on these cassettes is here.

Enjoyed reading through that. Helped me validate a few memories about listening to the tapes growing up. I still half expect Rubber Soul to open with Norwegian Wood

I’m the same but with ‘Help !’ due to growing up with it opening with ‘I Need You ‘. Took a long time to get used to the standard track-listing.

Thanks all.
Now I think about the recording it lacks the tell-tale clicks and crackles of a vinyl recording and back at that time I used to get tapes from my local library. I’ve also found a recording of A Hard Day’s Night as well that also has a different track listing, so same scenario I guess.

Oh my God they ruined Abbey Road ‘s Side B (slightly)
Why the hell would you re-arrange Rubber Soul and STILL put Run For Your Life as the closer?!

Not too sure of all the reasons but I think one was to cut costs. By changing the running order to having as little excess on one side they could save on tape, tho I think it started it with the reel-to-reel tapes. It also meant those playing them didn’t have to wait for the end of the tape.

Attached below are photo captures of an article from the 1999 Goldmine Beatles edition that looked at the cassette variations with the reordered track listings, hopefully they are in the correct order and legible.
All credit goes to the author (Mark Wallgren) and Goldmine and is upped here for information purposes. Any issues and I will happily remove them at first notice.

What i think is interesting is that they could’ve gotten much better results by just swapping around a few tracks:
On Please Please Me , swapping I Saw Her Standing There and Love Me Do leaves a 14 second difference
On With The Beatles , swapping Little Child and Money (That’s What I Want) leaves a 8 second difference
On A Hard Day’s Night , swapping the 1st 2 tracks on each side leaves practically no difference
Alternatively, ending with I Want To Hold Your Hand leaves a 9 second gap
On Beatles For Sale , swapping Rock And Roll Music and Honey Don’t leaves practically no difference
On Rubber Soul , swapping You Won’t See Me and What Goes On ? leaves a 5 second difference
On Revolver , swapping Love You To and And Your Bird Can Sing leaves a 5 second difference
On Magical Mystery Tour , swapping Flying and Baby, You’re A Rich Man leaves a 2 second difference
On The BEATLES, swapping Happiness Is A Warm Gun and Long, Long, Long leaves a 3 second difference
On Abbey Road , swapping Her Majesty and the 1st 2 tracks on side B with I Want You (She’s So Heavy) leaves a 3 second difference
On Let It Be , having Dig It and Maggie Mae surround The Long And Winding Road instead of Let It Be leaves a 27 second difference
Alternatively, ending with Don’t Let Me Down leaves an 8 second difference
