I have a ‘Best of the Beatles’ (Alan Partridge reference) Spotify playlist with 109 songs.I’ve got one (on my computer though) with 121 songs (5 are non-canon (Anthology, solo))
I find it useful for car journeys mainly since I have it downloaded for offline use. I have all of the Beatles studio albums on CD in my car though as well.
The playlisted started out with about 73 songs but i’ve been adding to it gradually. Will probably reach closer to 121 some day

Offline I have one playlist with all Beatles/solo/Wings/Fireman music I have. I also have one of all Paul’s post-Beatles music (I don’t do that with the other’s solo work because their music is under one name). I don’t do greatest hits, though, at least not with them.

Offline I love creating theme playlists just like Pablo Ramon because one gets a completely new point of view if one listens to music while paying attention to a certain aspect and is creative afterwards. However, I rarely do this because it would take me hours to thoroughly think through every possibility of ordering them.
I’d never make a ‘Best Of Beatles’ list though because except for exactly five songs every single canon song would make it on the list and several non-canon songs too.
Not once does the diversity seem forced -- the genius of the record is how the vaudevillian "When I'm 64" seems like a logical extension of "Within You Without You" and how it provides a gateway to the chiming guitars of "Lovely Rita. - Stephen T. Erlewine on Sgt Pepper's

Offline The thing is, Yesterday is popular, but it’s both utter *%$#, and musically very simple, so it’s not really their best song.
I’d just do my favourite x songs, x being number of songs I need for the playlist. And I can easily decide that thanks to my spreadsheet.

Offline Yesterday may suck but it’s a very popular song so it has to be on there, i feel the same way with Van Halen and Jump or Queen and You’re My Best Friend, the song may be absolute bollocks but it’s too popular to not have on there. Also, the main reason i don’t like Yesterday is because it’s overplayed and i feel the strings are unnecessary, I think it should’ve been just vocals and acoustic guitar, like Julia .

Offline I don’t go out of my way to listen to Yesterday but I don’t think it is a bad song. I think it is a very well written song and it is a very important song for Paul McCartney /The Beatles.
If I was making a playlist of important Beatles songs I would include it because of how notorious it is.
And in the end the lunch you take is equal to the lunch you bake.

I added it to my ‘Best of the Beatles’ playlist mainly for this reason. I still really enjoy the song though of course, it just gets a bit tiring.
I personally thing the strings work really well on Yesterday , they wouldn’t work at all on Julia .

Offline Let’s put it this way: Let’s say I’d just lived my entire life under a rock, then I came out and listened to the Beatles’s canon without knowing which tracks are popular, I would have crinkled up my nose and said ‘next!’ to Yesterday (and Something )
