“Beatles For Sale ” is one of my favourite albums. every song from this album has a five star rating in my music library.
and it doesn't matter if it's popular or not, it's still great.

Am I the ONLY one who likes Mr. Moonlight? I don't think it's exactly a masterpiece, and it's kind of weird, but I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as you guys seem to.

"Oddly enough, they often grow ten times the size of everyone else," said Alec thoughtfully, "and I’ve heard that they walk among the stars."

For me the only good thing about Mr Moonlight is John's opening 'Miiiiisssssterrrrrrrr Moonlight”. The remaining 2:30 is a real chore to go thru.

I like the organ solo too. But yeah the verses are somewhat mediocre. I haven’t heard the original version, what’s that like?

The original version of Mister Moonlight. Not sure who has the better version, in other words it wasnt that good a song to begin with.
Von Bontee, you're right about it being an imaginitive song to cover. Possibly the strangest and most obscure cover the beatles ever recorded.
The beatles hamburg 1962 version is far more fun, “here i am on my nose, begging if you please”.

Ooh, thanks for that. I was thinking just the other day that I don’t remember hearing the original, though I’m sure I have at some point. I was going to hunt it down but you saved me the trouble.

While there are too many cover songs, The Beatles classics such as Eight Days A Week and I'll follow the Sun Justify the purchase of this Album. I would have preferred Leave My Kitten Alone to Mr. Moonlight.

I really like the album, even though it's not my favorite by The Fab Four. My favorite songs on it are: No Reply , I'm a Loser, Baby's in Black, Eight Days A Week , etc.,etc.,etc. I like pretty much everything except for Mr. Moonlight, and Every Little Thing .

It's been said before, but the reason it's not as well liked as some of their other albums is becasue it got caught in the middle of 2, well, let's just say, greater works by them, (A Hard Day's Night and Help !) at least in my opinion. It also has 6 covers on it, which shows they took a step down in creativity. (even though I love this album) But, the fact they produced this album in a WEEK is astounding. Plus, you can tell the group is weary on this album.

Tired beatles meant a more exhausted sound. To even get an album together was some achievement considering they had been around the world touring, twice to america, recorded for the bbc and whatever else could be fitted in to an already packed solid schedule.
The covers arent that big a deal to me, they had done it for both albums in 1963. Its only looking back and having AHDN with all new Lennon/McCartney material that blurs the issue. And they did cover songs during the AHDN sessions, they were just released on an ep instead.

If it weren't for the cover picture, I wonder if the album would have the reputation of reflecting a tired band.

Beatles For Sale is solid but it took me some time to get into it. I still haven't heard 'Please Please Me ' or 'A Hard Days Night' so I don't know how it holds up compared to most of their earlier works but it has some good songs on it. I listened to it next to 'With the Beatles' and the difference I noticed, is while the songwriting on 'Beatles For Sale ' is stronger (obviously), 'With the Beatles' was more fun to listen to.
Plus Beatles For Sale have obvious fillers on them imo. I finally listened to it with headphones though last week and it is MUCH better that way.
I am really thinking about getting the mono version of the earlier albums when I save up money to really get the full effect of them.

Song titles like No Reply , I Dont Want To Spoil The Party, Im A Loser, Babys In Black suggest a less positive outlook and when listened to the musicianship has a less upbeat cheery sound, admittedly not the whole album but far more than the others. The previous albums all have a very upbeat enthusiasm that bulldozed thru you. A Hard Days Night (the lp) just screams unbridled joy.

BornInThe80s – get hold of AHDN as soon as you can. It’s possibly my favourite Beatles album. John Lennon was having a massively creative time at the start of 1964, and seemed to have written classic after classic. The only way it could have been improved is if they’d put I Call Your Name on there.

So I finally listened to AHDA and yeah I see why this album doesn't seem that great following that one. It's FANTASTIC! Thanks Joe for giving me the drive to actually buy it! I didn't think it was going to be as good as it is!

“For Sale” is one of my favourite Beatles albums, and I agree it's very underrated. The original material is very catchy, and I really love the arrangement of “Words Of Love “! Too bad George only sings one solo number, but it's right at the end of the album, so they saved the best Beatle 'til last. Tee hee. Ringo's vocal is also one of his best- I think the more rock 'n' roll songs really suit him.
