Do many people know that George re-recorded it?

I don’t know, I just know of it because I have the album.

Yeah, the trouble is that a lot of people don’t explore George’s back catalogue and miss out on a ton of fantastic music.

Yeah, I personally like George’s post Apple Music better than his Apple Music.

I couldn’t agree more, @meanmistermustard and @William Shears Campbell. And yes, Not Guilty is an excellent example; George’s solo version is much better (in my opinion) than the one in the Anthology CD.

I can’t stop listening to Besame Mucho lately, Paul’s voice fits the song very nicely!

This is one of my favorite Anthology songs. I also love the version in the Let It Be movie. Talk about voice goals.a-hard-days-night-ringo-13

So here are my favorites from all 3 Anthologies. And yep, this is pretty much my own Anthology Highlights playlist

Anthology 1

In Spite Of All The Danger      Three Cool Cats

My Bonnie                             Sheikh Of Araby

And I Love Her                      I’ll Be Back (both takes)

Anthology 2

Yes It Is                               Eleanor Rigby

Yesterday                             A Day In The Life

Got To Get You Into My Life   Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite (Take 7)

And Your Bird Can Sing

Anthology 3

While My Guitar Gently Weeps      For You Blue

Not Guilty                                   The Long And Winding Road

Rocky Raccoon                            Get Back

Mother Nature’s Son                     All Things Must Pass

Come And Get It                          I Me Mine

Let It Be                                     The End

I think it’s really interesting to listen to the early take of Ain’t She Sweet on Anthology 1 and then listen to the version on Anthology 3 . It’s hard to believe it’s the same song!

I prefer the Anthology version of Ob La Di better than the White Album version!

Now that I’m up to the nineties in the Beatles chronology I can relisten to the Anthologies. Good timing because we will soon be voting on the non-canon poll, and I figured I would get try to get some discussion going.

Happiness Is A Warm Gun from Anthology three was what turned me on to listening to outtakes and demos. Since I first heard it I’ve been crazy for collecting and listening to them. I really like the “Yoko Ono oh no, Yoko Ono oh yes,” part. It’s a short fragment, but the beginning of the Oh Yoko and Dear Yoko series.

I like What’s The Mary Jane more than Revolution 9 It is one of my favorite songs from The White Album period. John was so prolific during that period, and feels very “Velvet Undergroud-sh.” It is a little but more musical than Revolution 9 The lyrics crack me up as does the melody during the chorus.

The first time I heard the Anthology version of Happiness Is A Warm Gun I burst out laughing at the part where John messes up and goes “oh s**t…. wrong chord”. It was so unexpected, I loved it.

There are a lot of great moments like that. “Schminking of gin” during take 8 of Rocky Racoon stands out to me as well.

But only the laughing version is on Anthology 2 . My brother says that he prefers take two to the original. (The clean version.)
