Despite the reputation the Get Back rehearsals have there are a lot of fun moments and some really good jams and songs. Watching Rainbows (as mentioned previously) is arguably their best jam, You Really Got A Hold On Me (as featured in the film), the Cannonball/Not Fade Away/Hey Little Girl (In The High School Sweater)/Bo Diddley medley is a good listen, Because I Know You Love Me So (buried in the Fly On The Wall disc), there is a great version of One After 909 where John messes the words up, resulting in chaos, and a decent attempt at All Things Must Pass (Paul and John aren’t that into it but its good enough).
 
 

I love the medleys from the ‘Get Back ‘ sessions, atleast they did give us the ‘Rip It Up/Shake, Rattle And Roll/Blue Suede Shoes’ gem on the ‘Anthology 3 ‘, have you heard the ‘Black Dog Blues/Right String, Wrong Yo Yo/Run For Life’ one?  That one’s excellent, all four of them sound like they’re really into it, George even sings one of the verses.  Perhaps the number of medleys evident from these sessions contributed to the inspiration for the ‘Abbey Road ‘ medley constructed a few months later, John’s “shoot me” lyric from ‘Watching Rainbows’ also resurfaces during ‘Come Together ‘.

Apple have so many options in their vaults for future releases yet they come across as either incompetent, lazy or just unwilling. The last thing we should be getting in the 50 years celebrations is another damn compilation of tracks we already have – no scratch that, the last thing we should be getting is the planned US Albums revised to suit Apple’s mood. They must work so bloody hard to get it all done so damn slowly and then so wrong.
 
  
 

Perhaps because of the changing Copyright laws being the reason for the recent iTunes Bootleg recordings seeing the light of day, we may just finally see some of these passed over nuggets getting the same treatment over the next 5 years.  Another recording high on my own personal wishlist, which I’m not even sure if one actually exists, would be a live version of ‘We Can Work It Out ‘ which The Beatles did include in their set during a brief tour of Britain in late 1965, according to Nicholas Schaffner’s ‘Beatles Forever’ book.  Apple would be well advised to start releasing these recordings soon, for their chief demographic buying them would be the older Beatles fans who aren’t getting any younger, but they appear to be more focused on reissuing and re-releasing material designated to attract yet another generation instead…:-)

There is rumoured to be a recording of one of the live concerts from the ’65 UK Tour in existance, if it exists who knows who has it, what quality its in or whether or if we will ever see it. 
 
  

The recording quality would have to be pretty bad for Beatles fans to complain about it, most have become accustomed to living with the poor audio, especially when it comes to the live recordings which were never recorded under ideal circumstances.  Paul asked Tony Barrow (Beatles’ Press Agent) to record their final show at Candlestick Park on his handheld tape recorder, which he did and it’s very listenable, in fact, it may very well be my most listened to live Beatles recording despite the inferior audio.  Whether or not it’s because The Beatles knew that it was their last live show and put a little more into it or not, the performances here are noticeably superior to the Tokyo shows which were far better recorded, even ‘Paperback Writer ‘ (which doesn’t sound so good in Japan) sounds pretty fine.  One of the “best” things about it is that Tony Barrow ran out of tape before the last song was finished, I say “best” because a lot of beatleggers omitted the last tune from their wares because of this, which made me feel rather fortunate because my copy was one of the ones that kept it in.  The last song was ‘Long Tall Sally ‘ which was substituted in for ‘I’m Down ‘ which closed out their other shows on that last tour, it seems kinda fitting to me that the recording abruptly ends, just like the touring did for them that night.

Speaking of poor audio and live gems that Apple passed over, check out this recording of ‘A Picture Of You’ from a 1962 BBC show, that’s dated June 15 which I believe places it before Ringo joined and would feature Pete Best on drums:

Excellent delivery from George, I love the guitar/drum break in the middle, I’m unsure on the origins of the song itself but I do recall hearing a snippet of Joe Brown playing it in a documentary once, this recording is up there amongst my favourite BBC recordings, eventhough it technically sounds like sh*t.  I remember George Harrison saying during an ‘Anthology’ Interview (Extras or EPK, I think) “personally, I like a bit of tape hiss” and I’m the same way.

That “longer She’s A Woman outtake” that you mentioned was one that I’d forgot all about and haven’t listened to in years, it’s fabulous and heavy as hell, great audio on the version I have as well…:-)
