I own 1 and 2. Is Anthology 3 worth it? If so, I'll probably get it later this week.
On an unrealated note:- SCHOOLS OUT!!! (And there was much rejoicing. Yaaaay.)

3 is my favorite, or at least the White Album stuff on disc 1. It’s basically all acoustic, nothing is quite as insightful as some of the stuff on 2 like Tomorrow Never Knows or Strawberry Fields, but I like the simplicity of 3. The Let it Be stuff is mostly jam sessions like in the movie and there’s a little bit from Abbey Road . I’d say it’s definitely worth getting.

I think it’s the second best in the series, behind 2 but ahead of 1. There are some excellent tracks on it – an alternative Helter Skelter , Junk, Not Guilty , All Things Must Pass and Something demos, Mailman Bring Me No More Blues, and Come And Get It . You should really have those in your collection.

I love Anthology 3 , or at least Disk 1. A Beginning is perfect there, Happiness Is A Warm Gun is a nice take (except the mistake and “Yoko, oh no” bit), Helter Skelter is fantastic, I like MMM/PP too. Junk is probably better than McCartney's version, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da is better than the final version, except possibly the ending, and While My Guitar Gently Weeps is class. I also like Hey Jude , though it isn't as polished as the final version, and Not Guilty (how did that not get on the album?).
In fact, given how much relative rubbish was on there, why on Earth didn't Junk and Not Guilty make the cut?

Okay, thanks again for the reviews up thread. I got Anthology 3 over the weekend, and It was worth it just for Helter Skelter and WMGGW

Yes they are good even though of course very much “fan only” territory. They wouldn't mean a lot to me without having listened to the “finished product” first.
True. I probably wouldn't like it becuase of the screaming fans, or poor quality at times if I listened to it first.
I like the first and third one, best. It shows some of the songs that they gave away, and I reeeaaally like some of those :^)

I like them all, but if you want earlier stuff, Live At The BBC is, in my opinion better than Anthology 1 but I'd get them both if I was a realy big fan, probably. And they're different though becuase Anthology is more otheres that not Live At The BBC is also but better in the sense of the seeing with not but hearing.

Both are fantastic.
A1 is awesome – even if only for the first known recordings (In Spite… and That'll Be…). The rest is delicious gravy (Decca Demo tapes, etc…).
LATBBC gives me more of a sense of what I'll bet they sounded like in Hamburg. You can't go wrong with either album.

Just finished my collection with 1. I love it!!! I'm on Lend Me Your Comb.
Now you got me hooked again. Guess what I'll be listening to on the way home tonight. I really dig the Morcambe & Wise bit on disc 2. I used to watch that show when the reruns were aired over here on PBS.
Thanks mr. S!

Well…the poster was made before Love, and 1 is just their number one hits, so…I don't think that would count. I don't know about Let It Be …Naked.

You know what?
I've actually thought of doing a imaginary package of all the anthology items (like the Box of Vision)
The book with CD pockets for every chapter and also the DVD's (in the 1965 part they include also 1966 so I'll seperate them).

I have to admit I don't listen to the ANTHOLOGY albums very often — but there are really wonderful moments on each that make them worth owning…. for me, the highlights include the unreleased songs like “Leave My Kitten Alone “, “That Means A Lot “, and “Not Guilty “, as well as the Decca recordings (interesting to really hear Pete Best's drumming style)… plus the alternate versions of “Strawberry Fields”, “Norwegian Wood ” and “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da “… and most especially George's spine-tingling first take of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps “. I also really liked hearing some of the live performances included in Anthology 1 . Like someone else wrote here, I would never recommend any of these CD's to people who didn't already have the original releases, but for the serious Beatles fan, they're definitely worth owning.
I've got nothing to say, but it's okay..

These were my first Beatles CDs. When I was younger all I had to listen to the Beatles were those CDs and old cassettes of my parents. I'd actually say it was a bad thing because now I'm only used to those particular versions of those songs. So it throws me off whenever I hear the released songs because I'm used to the unreleased ones. So I'm with IMDeWalrus on them.
