Offline My sister and I love Beatle Babble ™! I made her a ringtone of that part from Live at BBC, the crinsk dee night speech. So now when someone calls, you get John and Ringo yelling to each other back and forth. Beatles in your pocket. 🙂
Back on point, I do think the mistakes, false starts, etc. make these ablums fun to own.

I believe the Rock Band parts have been broken down and are available on torrent sites. I haven't investigated, but I'm sure a lot of the studio chat is on there too.

I've never been comfortable using torrent sites………..always been a bit suspicious of their security.

Fortunately it's not a law yet. A bill's different to an act of parliament. The latter is when something passes into law; the former is just the proposal stage. There's widespread opposition to this, and we'll have a change of government (though probably not for the better) soon.

Offline All are great collector items. What fan of any band doesn’t LOVE the rare s**t! They are especially great for two reasons:
1) Lost tracks – s**t like “Not Guilty “, “You Know What To Do”, “Come And Get It “, “Cry For a Shadow”, “12-Bar Original”, etc.
2) You get to hear alot of the songs in their infancy. Some you even get to hear the full progression. It shows what a great group of musicians and song-writers they really were. They could start a song out in 3/4 and wind up in 4/4 by the next take. Amazing! I also like hearing songs like “Good Morning, Good Morning” without all the bells, whistles and large productions.
My favorite is number 3. I’m a late period man meself. I love everything they ever did, but those last three records are legendary!
It’s gotta be the best if only for the track “Not Guilty “. Far superior to his solo recording years later! I can’t believe they left it off of the White Album . If “Revolution 9 ” and “Good Night ” can make the cut then why not this one…
Oh that magic feeling…nowhere to go!

Offline The 3/4 to 4/4 one I remember is I’ll Be Back . It’s fascinating to hear how that one started out. Apart from the middle eight, it all still works quite well in 3/4.

Sometimes I wish the final version of Hey Jude had Paul’s intro on Anthology 3 .
The “With the Beatles”-style No Reply on Anth 1 always makes me laugh. When I would sing it to myself before I heard this version, I used to think to sing “your face” at the end of each verse, and discovering that John and Paul did it made me happy.
“Well I ask you very hydropholiky, ain’t she nice?”
Knowing you,
You'd probably laugh and say that we were worlds apart…

I listen to them a lot. I have a 30 minute commute to work – that’s my Beatle time each day. If you are ever driving in Maine and see a guy in your rear view mirror laughing – that’s me chuckling over the Morcambe & Wise bit or John saying “that was lovely, Ringo” after the live performance of Yesterday for Blackpool Night Out.

Offline I love the cd’s because they provide more of an insight as to who they were as a group together, plus I think that they really early takes with just an acoustic guitar sometimes actually sound better. I can’t believe no one has mentioned the alternate Strawberry Fields Forever takes, they are the reason I started buying the Anthology cd’s. Here’s the liner note for the first take of Strawberry Fields Forever :
This is John Lennon , alone in his music room at home in Weybridge, recording demonstration versions of his latest composition.
That was enough for me! Plus there are some really cool pictures and information. Although they were pretty expensive, I’m definately glad that I have them.

I just listened to Anthology 2 again this morning on my way to work. Other than Take 1 of A Day In The Life , the highlight for me is being able to follow the metamorphosis of Strawberry Fields Forever from demo tape, to early takes, to the finished product.

Offline Yeah I really love almost every John track on Anthology 2 , I’ve always preferred the Across The Universe take to the one that made Let It Be because John actually sounds clear in it. And the A Day In The Life is just incredible, Sugar Plum Fairies, Sugar Plum Fairies gives me chills everytime I hear it. This truly was the most incredible period of the Beatles career and it’s great to hear some of the starting points for tracks that eventually became legendary.

I agree that would have been John-like humor (I want to hold your gland, etc…), but all accounts I’ve heard or read say Sugar Plum Fairy.

The first time I heard ‘sminking’ was while driving. I was laughing so hard there were tears in my eyes.
