What's the verdict- like them or find them unessecary?

I myself love them, I find some songs even better on the Anthology, notably:

Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
It's Only Love
Happiness Is A Warm Gun (I don't know why! I love the White Album version as much as this one, but this take is just… I don't know. Gives me shivers, this one; inexplainable excellence! Minus the whole “Yoko Ono oh no, Yoko Ono oh yes” ditty, which just makes me grind my teeth a bit at his apparent perpetual thoughts about her.)
I'm Only Sleeping
Hey Jude

I love the extras as well! Just little tunes to satiate us ever-hungry fans for more songs, such as:

Teddy Boy
Leave My Kitten Alone
That Means a Lot

AND not to mention! Who can forget the lovely Real Love and Free As A Bird ?!

I suppose my only beef with the albums is the tampering with tracks that were meant to be… untampered with! Paul, let sleeping dogs lie, and in your own hallowed words, “let it be”! You can still hear inconsistent cuts in certain songs, and that consistency makes me roll my eyes a bit, but, still, they're such a valuable addition to the boy's repertoire.

And what do you think of the live songs included? I'm not too fond of them; incessant “John!”s aren't necessarily music to my ears. Though, I do get a kick out of John's snippy, “shaddap, I'll kill you…” during Help ! 😛 Serves you right, kiddies!

Tongue, lose thy light. Moon, take thy flight… see ya, George!

Do you love this for the same reason as me (remember we spoke about that Lennon voice before?). This one definately gives me goose bumps!

Anthologies I & II prove that The Beatles were a far better live band than they gave themselves credit for. Even when they couldn't hear themselves over all the screaming they still managed to sound pretty darned good.

Ah, yes! Especially the second verse and chorus, from “haven't I the right…” all the way to the end. That Lennon growl! It's beautiful.

I like them. My favorite song that is different from the original is Norwedgian Wood (this bird has flown) I like the vocals, it seems darker. I also prefer the version of All Things Must Pass over George's version on his debut album.

And like you said, there's the inclusion of songs such as Teddy Boy , Real love, not guilty, Free As A Bird , All Things Must Pass , and Junk.

I really like hearing all of the different versions.

I love the bit before You've got to hide your love away when the glass breaks and John does that Pauls broken a glass thing and then says 'are you ready Macca'. Its great to hear these little bits of banter.

It's facinating to hear how some of the songs started out at different tempo's and with different instrumentation, like And I Love Her . I think that's what made the difference between  The Beatles and other groups, they instinctively knew what worked and what didn't.

Onward my friends, and glory for the thirty ninth!!

Yes! Like the 3/4 version of I'll Be Back, which clearly wasn't working but you knew they'd get there eventually.

Yes! Those are the bits too as you know it's not staged for the camera.  They had no idea that in years to come we'd be listening to these intimate little snippets.

Me, I didn't buy them, although I did “acquire” them. (Those guys don't need my money! Which hasn't stopped me from buying those remasters…)  I thought “Free As A Bird ” was totally unimpressive (tho I loved “Real Love “), and those types of outtakes collections are almost always more “interesting” than enjoyable. (*cough newmaryjane cough*) But hey, it's the Beatles, which means that even the merely interesting is downright fascinating, like the early instrumental track for “I'm Only Sleeping” (vibes!) or the uncontrollable (reefer madness!) giggling on the alternate “And Your Bird Can Sing ” (which could've been titled “And Our Byrds-guitars Can Sing”).  I think the alternate versions of “Norwegian Wood ” and “Across The Universe ” are probably my favourite things here.

I'm curious as to which tracks have been tampered with?  Obviously, I have no liner notes or documentation to refer to…

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

I love John's giggle before It's Only Love, as well as the random noises before No Relpy; what they were talking about, we'll have no idea! And during the same song when John sings, “with another BLANK!” Haha, mjb, I'm sure you get a laugh out of that as much as I do! 😛

Have you played The Beatles: Rock Band? There are studio chat outtakes all over that, before the songs load. Some of them appeared on the Anthology DVDs, but a lot of them are previously unreleased (my favourite is John going through the lyrics of Come Together , singing “He got… teenage lyrics!”).

Rock Band just doesn't interest me, however, I'd love to see (hear) it for the very reasons you've just stated. I'm also impressed how they isolated the tracks too……..but I guess I'll not have the pleasure Frown

Joe, I just had a thought! Why don't you record all the various bits of studio banter that proceed the songs on Rock Band and put them with their corresponding songs on this site? Should only take you, what, a 'little' while to do Wink

And we'd all SO APPRECIATE IT LaughLaughLaugh

I'm afraid, in this case, flattery will get you nowhere Laugh

I believe the Rock Band parts have been broken down and are available on torrent sites. I haven't investigated, but I'm sure a lot of the studio chat is on there too.

Damn, why can't they release that stuff in a format for the REST of us who don't know or care the first thing about videogames?! https://www.beatlesbible.com/w…../', 'sf-frown', '1');” src=”https://www.beatlesbible.com/wp/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-frown.gif” alt=”Frown” />

(I mean, I play guitar and pretty much suck; but suck even WORSE at Guitar Hero!)

Yeah, same here. I'd love a CD of nothing but Beatle banter and other bits.

Speaking of, does anyone know what John meant when he said before take 1 of A Day In The Life , “Dub the mic on the piano quite low just keeping it like maracas, you know. You know those old pianos…”?

The only thing I can think of is that he wanted the piano microphone closer than normally would be so it would sound more percussive..?
