Yeah, me too. I think it looked better without. I don't really think the album cover would be Abbey Road without him and his cigarette and the barefootedness.

I got an Abbey Road puzzle and they removed the ciggerett.

That is stupid. It isn't Abbey Road without the cigarette.

Because it would mean that they were a bad influence, or something, if children saw it, I guess.

It’s the “hip” thing not to smoke now. It’s less money if the cigarette is there. It’s the refusal of the company to respect artistic integrity or sanity. It’s political correctness taken to far. It’s idiocy but yet these people have no morals, integrity or brains, for that matter. Also, semi related, MMM, is the random capitalization history?

Wow, if that is the reason why they took out one tiny cigarette, then everyone might as well just keep kids, and maybe even themselves, in a plastic bubble of you can’t handle the fact that people smoke. That is just incredibly stupid.

I agree with the above, but isn’t it weird when you see pics (particularly early ones) of The Beatles and they’re smoking? Like appearances on kids’ TV shows etc. I saw a photo the other day (it might even have been here – I’m in a Beatles whiteout at the moment) of a couple of them goofing around on a TV show, and Ringo was holding a cigarette. Not just in private, but on a TV show!

Yeah, those were the days when smoking wasn't akin to leprosy.
I can recall sitting in a hospital bed the night before surgery smoking a cigarette – and that was in 1982! I no longer smoke, but find it comical that one could be shot by a small army of soldiers in a machine gun nest for even coming close to a hospital parking lot while thinking of smoking a cigarette.
Deleting a smoke from the Abbey Road cover photo is going a bit far.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Yes! Especially pics of George, because it's sad. 🙁

Editing out the cig is crazy. It’s an iconic cover! Like what, kids don’t see their parents smoke? Or friends at school? Do me a favour!
I saw Howard Stern interviewing McCartney on a YouTube clip recently. Paul confirmed that the album was originally going to be called Everest,as they were struggling to come up with a name, and the sound engineer that day was smoking Everest cigarettes. So,the album could have been named after a brand of cigarette!
They decided it wasn’t a ‘cool’ enough name, and went outside the studio for inspiration. They saw the street sign, the rest is history

I agree, it’s crazy. It’s example #1,001 of Political Correctness run amok.

@ Pineapple Records: Absolutely. Can you imagine the fuss it would have caused if they had named the album ‘Everest’ instead, and people had found out the inspiration for it?
Too many do gooders out there looking for something to complain about
