How about reducing all titles to one word:
Come
Max
Oh
Octopus
Heavy
Sun
King
‘Cause
Your $$
Mustard
Polypam
Bathroom
ZZZZZZ…
Weight
The
Mum.

Actually, I agree with the original poster. I think Abbey Road has the songs to be their best album by a mile but is too messy to be effective as a whole. As it is, we have to sit through MSH, OD and OG on side 1 in a row, and I think the medley could be a lot more effective without MMM-SCITTBW as both of those disrupt the flow.
I get rid of MMM-SCITTBW as the medley runs smooth without them whereas you couldn’t have it without Carry That Weight for example.
I personally like albums to contain a nice round number of songs like 8, 12 or 14. Who wants a 17 song album?
Anyway here’s my ‘perfect’ Abbey Road .S
Side 1
2. Something
3. Because
4. Oh! Darling
6. I Want You (She’s So Heavy)
Side 2
7. You Never Give Me Your Money
8. Sun King
11. The End
12. Her Majesty
Come on, tell me that’s not a perfect album.

Well, Mean Mister Mustard is one of my all time favourite songs, and Polythene Pam isn’t far behind. So I’m inclined to disagree here….

Why would you want to reduce such a classic album, this is The Beatles at their best and is a far better goodbye than their actual final album Let It Be , I say don’t remove a single track.

in terms of the songs recorded and released, i’d rather we got to hear every single idea they ever had.
But for albums, I’d rather have a short, effective track list that doesn’t get bogged down with filler tracks.
I like the idea of having side 1 as the individual songs and side 2 as the medley, except Here Comes The Sun and Because have to be on there somewhere, so replace MSH and OG with them.
MSH and OG both see like more White Album cuts than Abbey Road ones.

Just take all the songs off the album, then it’ll be quite small.

Here’s an idea for a 7 inch Abbey Road EP if you’d like:
Side A:
Side B:
I know that having 8 tracks on a 7 inch sounds like a lot but some of those tracks are very short and if you make it for 33 rpm instead of 45 rpm, it should fit, I’m actually surprised The Beatles didn’t think of that for Magical Mystery Tour . If you prefer double EP’s, you could use this track listing:
Side A:
Side B:
Side C:
Mean Mr. Mustard
She Came In Through The Bathroom Window
Side D:

That is too many songs, hardly minimal.

Just wipe Abbey Road from everyone’s memories. Can’t minimalize an album if there is no album in the first place.

Could have 1 song for every Beatle to sing, as well as a song where they all share lead vocals and a partial instrumental.
Side A:
Come Together (John on lead with Paul on backing)
Something (George on lead with Paul on backing)
Side B:
Octopus’s Garden (Ringo on lead with John, Paul, and George on backing)
Golden Slumbers (Paul on lead)
Carry That Weight (The Beatles on shared lead)
The End (instrumental, Paul on lead during 1st line, The Beatles sing “love you” section, The Beatles sans Ringo sing during finale)

I wouldn’t change anything about this album, in regards to filler as I have seen I think @Zig say “one person’s filler is another person’s treasure”
I certainly hope that is Zig but I have seen that quote on these forums.

So true. The amount of hate on MMM and PP is incredible, yet I love those two tracks, and would even put MMM definitely in my top 20. Conversely, I hate Something , yet lots of people love it. That’s why you can’t minimise any album, because there will always be someone who disagrees heartily with it.

I would get rid of thoses songs and all the rest.
Then I make a new album called road Abbey
After that, I can go and put all the tracks on that one but in reverse order
I’ll make millions.

Funny how opinions differ. I prefer the album as a whole and can’t think of one song I consider a “must listen to” when playing random tracks.

I agree with the idea of an effective track list. But to call any song on this album “filler” is a bit shortsighted. Whether or not you like a song is one thing, differing tastes being what they are. But the author of each track would give you a solid argument against calling their work filler. Hell, even when ‘Her Majesty ‘ was culled from the medley, it still found itself mistakenly tacked on to the end of the tape. It serves its purpose, as a lark, every time I listen to the album. It makes me smile. Hardly filler.

If you check my tracklist I had Her Majesty in there.
In hindsight, the only parts of the medley I dislike are MMM and PP. Right now I’m thinking that they should have ditched those two and put Her Majesty in the medley.
