Edit: Apple announced the release officially on the 8th August 2019. If you wish to avoid all discussion before that date please click here to go to Ron Nasty’s post containing Apple’s official press release. All posts before then (#1 -> 27) are from before that date and therefore conjecture. Thank you.

Discussions and speculation are occurring aplenty elsewhere so it seems daft not to have something on the forum. No idea how the thread will go and this post may be edited when figured out and/or official announcements come. At the time of writing all talk of contents and release is speculation, nothing has been confirmed.
As posted in ‘Beatles News‘ (by Ron Nasty), Giles posted on twitter
which has been taken to mean a 50th release is happening with an announcement coming in a few weeks.
No idea how to get the pictures on here as there is no copy option but on this twitter page are pictures of a tracklisting for a 50th ‘Abey Road’ deluxe with packing options. Nothing is confirmed.

I saw the same on another website earlier this evening and was contemplating whether it was time to start this thread.
I do hope there are at least a couple of changes to this version of the tracklisting, so in that regard am glad it’s marked as *NOT FINAL*.
Here are the twitter images:
I’m still holding out what’s looking like a vain hope for the versions of Who Slapped John? and Be-Bop-a-Lula recorded on 24 July.

I’m really hoping this happens. It’s heaven because The Beatles experience is never truly over – demos and outtakes are still being released, and in large quantities. The Pepper and White Album releases are among the most treasured items in my collection. The only ‘new’ music I have purchased in recent times have been the deluxe editions. Hopefully LIB and other albums get the same treatment and continue this trend. It keeps the band alive in an extraordinary way.

Of course I’ll be pre-ordering/buying this, no matter what!
…. However…. I do feel that the track listing (so far) is a bit anemic. I hope we end up with more than 4 discs (3CD/1 Blu-ray) of material since Sgt. Pepper was 6 discs. One of the main draws for me will be the multi-channel mixes. I’m eagerly looking forward to “officially” enjoying those. (No, the Beatles Rock Band tracks don’t count!)
My other concern would be: how many of the “demos & outtakes” tracks were already released on Anthology 3 ?
Here’s hoping the updates will keep coming quickly!

But, remember, the 4th CD in the Pepper deluxe was the mono mix, and AR didn’t have a mono mix, while discs 5 & 6 in Pepper were a DVD and Blu-Ray with identical contents. You remove the mono mix and the DVD and you’re down to 4 discs.

Yes I’d considered that, but when compared to (the marketing of) the Sgt. Pepper ‘s 50th set, including only 4 discs just screams a lesser value. After all, Pepper, White Album and Imagine all had 6 discs in their sets, so it only follows that Abbey Road should as well. If only 4, perhaps AR50 will cost less? Of course, I’d rather they include more material and therefore more discs… but only if that material is worthwhile.
I’m kind of at a loss as to what those discs would be though. Perhaps something like the Elements mixes in the Imagine Ultimate Collection where certain parts are highlighted? I enjoyed those more than I thought I would, but in the end they do seem like filler. Some audio tracks with commentary from Paul and Ringo (and others) might be welcome, but again, kind of filler-y.
I suppose we’ll know soon and I’m hoping for a few really cool surprises – like the long lost take of John doing vocals on Oh! Darling . (jk, I wish!)

Interesting question, I thought, so I did a side-by-side based on the rumoured tracklist. Before the / is the description from the rumoured, and after is A3…
Something [demo] / [demo]
Old Brown Shoe [take 2] / [demo]
Octopus Garden [take 9] / [takes 2 & 8]
Maxwell’s Silver Hammer [take 12] / [take 5]
Come Together [take 5] / [take 1]
The End [take 3] / [remix + A Day In The Life last chord]
Because [take 1] / [acappella]
So, it looks on first glance that the demo of Something is the only possible overlap with A3, and even that may not be so. The demo we know, and that was released on A3, may not be this demo. It may be a completely new demo that is previously unknown. However, even if it is the demo recorded on 25 February (George’s birthday!) that was included on A3, it still may not be quite the same.
Though he only recorded one demo take of Something that day (the one on A3), compared to the two each for Old Brown Shoe and All Things Must Pass , George recorded a piano overdub that wasn’t used for the 1996 release: so, Something [demo], if not completely unknown, it could equally – and possibly more likely – be the A3 version with the piano overdub reinstated.

Apple have been very good in not duplicating material from ‘A3’ on the 50th sets so far. Aside from ‘Step Inside Love’ I can’t think of any track that was exactly the same; ‘GMGM’ take 8 was a different mix, ‘HIAWG’ was a different edit, lasted slightly longer and in stereo as were all the Esher demos, ‘RR’ ran on for another 40 seconds or so, ‘Los Paranois’ and ‘Helter Skelter ‘ were complete.

So, 50th anniversary of the cover shoot next Thursday (8 August), anyone feel like me we’ll get the official announcement next Thursday or Friday?
The Abbey Road cover shoot anniversary tends to get some news coverage every year as its increasingly become a public gathering. This year is bound to to big as it’s the 50th. The 45th got a lot of news coverage, as did the 40th. It could be a way to get a story even more attention by announcing it on the anniversary as fans gather on Abbey Road to cross the crossing giving the press a captive crowd of talking heads on the new release, or they could embargo until midnight and get coverage across Thursday and Friday?
I think next Thursday they’ll confirm.

Perhaps I am the only fellow in the entirety of the Beatles fanbase who wishes for the entire outtake track-list for both “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” and “Because “. The former because of two reasons, the first being it’s my favorite song in the album and secondly because it’s one of the earliest started yet lastly finished track on the album. The latter because I would enjoy listening to different variations to the piano intro leading to the harmonization. Just my opinion on the speculated track-list posted by (meanmrmustard) above.

Paul first confirmed the existence of the White 50th in an interview ahead of the official announcement last year. It’s good to see Ringo has done the same for Abbey Road . At least we now know we’re not waiting in vain.
I still think the official announcement will come on 8 August. Neither Pepper or the White had an obvious moment to tie the announcement to, whereas the anniversary of the cover shoot just seems to scream out as a moment.
Ringo was talking to Billboard, published today, and says:
I’ve loved all the re-releases because of the remastering, and you can hear the drums, which got dialed down in the old days. I get a bit fed up, personally, with all those, like, Take 9 or Take 3, the odd takes that we didn’t put out, but that’s part of the box set and you have to do stuff like that. But I’ve always just listened to the record itself, what we put out in the 60s or 1970, and it’s brighter. It’s amazing with Beatles music; We have a billion streams a year now, and every generation still has a listen to us. Far out.

I’d love to have all those outtakes, i was expecting a good bunch of “Happiness Is A Warm Gun ” outtakes from the White Album as well but we only got one instead
we got two of “i will” but only one of “happiness…”
So i wouldn’t be surprised at all if now they (Paul) include 3 or 5 of “Her Majesty ” and only one, or half, of “I want you…”

I like to think those in charge of choosing the tracklisting for the bonus material base it on whether or not the material is interesting and worth hearing. I don’t need to hear multiple takes of a song if it doesn’t deviate too much from the finished product.
I’m sure I read an article from Giles Martin discussing why they didn’t include X on the 50th Anniversary Editions and it was pretty much because of the reasons mentioned above.
