Paul McCartney performed at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Canada, on 28 November 2011.
It was the penultimate show of the On The Run Tour, which lasted for 37 dates between July 2011 and November 2012, and the first of two consecutive nights in Edmonton. Tickets for both sold out in a matter of days in September.
The city was in a celebratory mood ahead of the shows, with mayor Stephen Mandel officially proclaiming 26-30 November as Paul McCartney Week.
Part of 102A Avenue running through Churchill Square renamed Abbey Road for the week. Silhouettes of The Beatles’ famous crossing on the 1969 album cover were positioned on the road between City Hall and the Three Bananas Cafe.
A free screening of The Beatles’ 1964 film A Hard Day’s Night took place at City Hall, while on Churchill Square the party atmosphere continued with local improv performers dressed as the Queen, royal guards and British policemen.
Towards the end of the show the group was joined by the Pipes and Drums of the Edmonton Police Service for a version of ‘Mull Of Kintyre’.
Here’s a clip of ‘Live And Let Die’ and ‘Hey Jude’:
McCartney’s band was Paul ‘Wix’ Wickens (vocals, keyboards, guitar, percussion, harmonica), Brian Ray (vocals, guitar, bass), Rusty Anderson (vocals, guitar), and Abe Laboriel Jr (vocals, drums).
