Sir Paul McCartney performed live on last night’s X Factor final in the UK.
McCartney performed the Beatles song ‘Drive My Car’, for which he was joined onstage by the show’s final 12 contestants. He then sat at a brightly-decorated upright piano to sing Live And Let Die.
When asked about the finalists Joe McElderry and Olly Murs, McCartney was somewhat noncommittal, telling host Dermot O’Leary: “I think they’re both good, you know. One of them’s going to win.”
In an echo of John Lennon’s famous comments that “we hope we passed the audition”, Simon Cowell jokingly told McCartney: “I’d like to say Paul, on behalf of all of us, you’re through to the next round.”
