Paul McCartney performed at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA, on 17 August 2009.
It was the penultimate show of the Summer Live ’09 Tour, which lasted for 10 dates in July and August 2009. This show was seen by 15,479 fans.
McCartney’s band was Paul ‘Wix’ Wickens (vocals, keyboards, guitar, percussion, harmonica), Brian Ray (vocals, guitar, bass), Rusty Anderson (vocals, guitar), and Abe Laboriel Jr (vocals, drums).
All tickets for the concert were sold out, and the show began around 50 minutes later than scheduled due to delays at the entrances.
To mark the event, the state of Oklahoma declared Monday Paul McCartney Day, announced by Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry and Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor.
Paul McCartney is a genuine living legend, among the most successful recording artists in history of popular music, as his enormous contributions to music through The Beatles, Wings and his solo career have been justly celebrated worldwide.Over five decades, Sir Paul McCartney has given us some of the greatest and most memorable pop music of all time. He is truly a living legend whose impact on music and popular culture is incalculable. Tulsa and the entire State of Oklahoma are honored by his visit.
For generations, from the Beatles to Wings to his solo career, Paul McCartney’s music has reached across time and space to touch us all. It is fitting that this icon in popular music celebrate with us as we mark the first year anniversary in the BOK Center, a venue that will entertain generations to come. We are honored to have Sir Paul McCartney in Tulsa, and glad to be the host on this special day.
