John Lennon’s Höfner Senator guitar sells for £205,250

A 1958 Höfner Senator guitar previously owned by John Lennon has sold for £205,250 (337,226) at auction. The guitar was sold to an unnamed bidder. It was expected to fetch £100,000-150,000 at the auction, which took place at Christie’s auction house, London. Lennon bought the guitar from Hessy’s Music Store in Liverpool. It is thought that he kept it for songwriting purposes. A fax of a letter written in 1982 by George Harrison, describing the instrument as one of Lennon’s first guitars, accompanied the sale.
