Backbeat, the biopic of Stuart Sutcliffe’s Hamburg relationship with Astrid Kirchherr, is to be turned into a musical.
The 1994 film starred Stephen Dorff as Sutcliffe, Sheryl Lee as Kirchherr and Ian Hart as John Lennon, and chronicled The Beatles’ early days in Hamburg. It was based on the book Stuart Sutcliffe: The Lost Beatle by Alan Clayson and Pauline Sutcliffe.
Its director, Iain Softley, has reportedly been conducting casting sessions for a stage musical version. More news as and when we get it.
