Brainwashed, the first posthumous George Harrison album, was released on 18 November 2002.
It was released a year after his death, and 15 years after his previous studio album, Cloud Nine.
The album was announced in September 2002, two months ahead of the release date.
Brainwashed was issued on 18 November 2002 on vinyl and compact disc. There was also a limited edition CD set in a clamshell box containing a poster, Dark Horse sticker, guitar plectrum bearing Harrison signature, and a bonus DVD about the making of the album.
The album enjoyed its highest chart success in Norway, where it peaked at number nine on the album chart. In the US it reached number 18 on the Billboard 200, and in the UK it peaked at 29.
