Paul McCartney proposes to Heather Mills

Paul McCartney proposed marriage to Heather Mills on 23 July 2001.

They had met on 20 May 1999 at the first annual Pride Of Britain Awards ceremony at London’s Dorchester Hotel, and their relationship was made public in the new year.

McCartney proposed to Mills while on holiday in the Lake District, England. He gave her a £15,000 diamond and sapphire ring he had purchased in Jaipur, India, while they were there on another holiday.

The couple married on 11 June 2002. They separated on 17 May 2006 and their acrimonious divorce was finalised on 18 February 2008.
