Yoko Ono dedicates a tree to John Lennon in Strawberry Fields

On the 58th anniversary of John Lennon’s birth, Yoko Ono dedicates a tree in his honour at the Strawberry Fields area of Central Park in Manhattan, New York City.

The ceremony was also attended by the lord mayor of Liverpool, Herbert E Herrity. The mayor gave Ono the Freedom of the City award, which had been awarded posthumously to Lennon in 1984 but never officially presented.

Also on 9 October 1998, VH-1 in the United States showed the world première of a new video for Lennon’s song ‘Working Class Hero’, as heard on the John Lennon Anthology
