The first mixing session for John Lennon’s fourth solo album Mind Games took place on 6 August 1973.
Although the album was incomplete, the backing tracks for each of the songs, plus the album outtake ‘Rock And Roll People’, had been taped over the previous five days at New York’s Record Plant.
The rough mixes made on this day were for Lennon, producing the sessions, to decide which overdubs needed adding. In the forthcoming days musicians including saxophonist Michael Brecker, pedal steel guitarist Peter E ‘Sneaky Pete’ Kleinow, and vocal group Something Different would record additional parts.
The overdub sessions began on 10 August. Recording continued until 20 August, after which the songs were mixed and edited.
