The ninth recording session for John Lennon’s debut solo album, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, took place on 18 October 1970.

Lennon worked on five songs: ‘Look At Me’, ‘God’, ‘Well Well Well’, ‘Remember’, and ‘Mother’.

He began by double-tracking his vocals and electric guitar for ‘Look At Me’ simultaneously, onto take 9 from 15 October. The completed song was then mixed in stereo.

Lennon then added a third vocal overdub onto ‘God’, in the final section of the song. The song was then mixed in stereo. Lennon’s vocals from 9 October were used up to and including the line “and that’s reality”. For the “dream is over” section, Lennon’s guide vocals from 9 October were used apart from the words “I was the dream weaver” and “And so”, which were recorded on this day.

The third song was ‘Well Well Well’. Lennon overdubbed more lead guitar onto take 4 from 27 September. He and Ringo Starr then added maracas and tom tom respectively, although neither appears in the final mix.

‘Remember’ was given an organ overdub during this session, but it was replaced the next day by two jaw harp parts. The song was then complete and mixed on 24 October.

The last song worked on during this session was ‘Mother’. Lennon overdubbed vocals and guitar onto take 94. He added another vocal part the following day, but neither was used in the final mix.
