Recording, editing: Mother, Look At Me by John Lennon

Studio Three, EMI Studios, Abbey Road
Producers: John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Phil Spector
Engineers: Phil McDonald, John Leckie

The eighth recording session for John Lennon’s debut solo album, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, took place on 17 October 1970.

The musicians were Lennon, Klaus Voormann on bass guitar, and Ringo Starr on drums. They worked on two songs: ‘Mother’ and ‘Look At Me’.

Lennon began by working on ‘Mother’. An edit was made of the master, take 64, from 27 September, which duplicated the second verse in place of the first. This became known as take 93. Lennon then overdubbed a vocal track before a new copy, numbered take 94, was made. ‘Mother’ was mixed on 24 October.

Lennon had recorded ‘Look At Me’ on 15 October. On this day he overdubbed an acoustic guitar part onto the master, take 9. The song was completed with final vocal and guitar overdubs on 18 October.
