Recording: Savoy Truffle

This was The Beatles’ third consecutive recording session at London’s Trident Studios. They began work on George Harrison’s ‘Savoy Truffle’, recording the rhythm track on this day.

The group spent some time rehearsing the song in the studio before recording a single take. This had Harrison on rhythm guitar, Paul McCartney on bass guitar, and Ringo Starr playing drums. John Lennon did not play on ‘Savoy Truffle’.

    1. Actually, I have listened to the recording and the bass sound is very resounding, so I would assume that Paul was using his left-handed Rickenbacker bass in order to play like either James Jamerson or Duck Dunn on this R&B/soul-styled song written by George.
Before anyone asks why John didn’t participate in the recording, it’s most likely that he was taking a week off from the sessions and what some journalists fail to realize is that he was getting divorced from Cynthia and at the same time, Yoko was pregnant with a baby whom she tragically miscarried.
