With their 1965 tour of North America complete, The Beatles flew back to London on the evening of 1 September. They landed at London Airport (later renamed Heathrow) the following morning.
Upon their return to England they enjoyed a break from work lasting nearly six weeks.

Just to nitpick, since McCartney and Harrison attended a Byrds recording session in Los Angeles earlier this day (according to previous history entry), it seems more likely the Beatles had returned to L.A. the previous night after the San Francisco concert, and flew out of L.A. this evening.
