The Beatles’ Sunday nights from July to September 1963 were commonly spent performing in Blackpool, Lancashire. On 1 September they had a rare break, but returned on this day with a show at the ABC Theatre.
This was The Beatles’ fifth and final concert at the venue. They returned to Blackpool twice more in August 1964 for shows at the Opera House.

From 1960-1963 my Dad was stationed in England. Either in the summer of ’62 or ’63 my mom and her friend wanted to go see Cliff Richards. My Mom took us 3 kids and the friend took her 3 kids and we drove the hour and a half to Blackpool. I didn’t realize it until a few years later that the Beatles performed that day before Cliff Richards. If you’re not familiar with him he was the English Elvis Presley and he “discovered” Olivia Newton John. It’s a little like going to see the Monkees and a few years later realizing that the opening act was Jimi Hendrix!! Actually true by the way but only for a very few shows. Parents were horrified to see and hear Hendrix with their little pre-teen teenie boppers and him smashing and lighting his guitar on fire!!
