The fifth of The Beatles’ six consecutive dates in the English seaside town of Southport, Lancashire, took place on 30 August 1963. They played two houses on each night.
They played the same set of 10 songs throughout the residency: ‘Roll Over Beethoven’, ‘Thank You Girl’, ‘Chains’, ‘A Taste Of Honey’, ‘She Loves You’, ‘Baby It’s You’, ‘From Me To You’, ‘Boys’, ‘I Saw Her Standing There’, and ‘Twist And Shout’.

I recall going on a coach trip from Warrington Co-op to a Southport venue (may have been the Odeon). I think it was the early 60s and what was special about the occasion which I will never forget was the during one of the Beatles songs JOHN snapped a string on his guitar which a lot of people noticed. The other Beatles were all laughing at John but he just carried on playing as though nothing had happened. I wish that I could find out the exact date but I think it’s a shot in the dark unless Paul or Ringo could be asked or someone who might have been there that evening were to read this..not to worry.
