This was reputedly the day Dezo Hoffman took photos and movies of them: The infamous Edwardian bathing costumes shots, go karting. Maybe the donkey rides?
They could be seen smiling and waving from an upper window on the side of the cinema, by excited teenagers queuing in the street below, just before the show. Topping the bill, two shows nightly, with Gerry and the Pacemakers, Johnny Kidd & the Pirates, Billy J Kramer too I think. I was in the stalls for the first ‘house’ at 6.15pm. What lovely parents I had; they bought their 14 year old son a Beatles ticket his passport to a lifetime of guitar based R&B. What a fabulous earthy taste of heaven, unconcerned by boppers’ head shaking screams, souls as one in rhythm, still echoing down the years.
