Day six of their UK tour with Roy Orbison, and The Beatles performed at the Granada Cinema in Walthamstow, London. The concert took place shortly after the recording of the first Pop Go The Beatles programme for the BBC.
As with the other dates on the Roy Orbison tour, The Beatles performed a seven-song set: ‘Some Other Guy’, ‘Do You Want To Know A Secret’, ‘Love Me Do’, ‘From Me To You’, ‘Please Please Me’, ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ and ‘Twist And Shout’.
This was the first Beatles concert at the Granada Cinema. They returned there on one other occasion, on 24 October 1964.

Remember it well!! First time I saw The Beatles live
My husband was also there that night but he was watching Roy Orbison and we laugh about it now as we hadn’t met by then !!
Hi Janet! I’m a Beatles Historian (yes, there is such a thing!) I have a tape from that day! These days I’m consulting on The Beatles LIVE! film, currently in production…Ron Howard is our director. Anyway, would you and your husband be interested in being interviewed about your experiences at the show? If so, please contact me! erik at fanthology dot com.
Hi Erik,
That sounds like an amazing project you’re working on. I found out from my dad the other day that he was also at this gig. I’m sure he’d be up for a few words, if you’re still working on it that is.
Take care
Hello Erik. I have heard about a tape from this particular show. Is it available anywhere? Would love to hear it.
Pauline and I saw the Beatles/Roy Orbison show at the Granada E17 in 1963. Fab show- I didn’t start courting Pauline until June 1963 so the 24th May 63 venue date is not accurate. I very much remember the show and the fantastic effect Roy had on the show.
I went with my husband to see the show we were 17 and I was one of the screaming girls that ran down to the stage, my husband who was my boyfriend then was not amused,as he has just reminded me. ?
