  1. Saw the Beatles on April 9 1963 at the State Ballroom Kilburn. they were the only band on the bill and played some Chuck Berry and little Richard numbers as well as their hits and both sides of From Me To You/Thank You Girl which was their new record at the time. The State Ballroom had been converted from the 3rd class waitng hall of the State Cinema in Willesden Lane a few years previously. It was used as a ballroom on a couple of nights of the week and also for bingo on other nights. The stage had no direct exit to the dressing room, so the Beatles had to go through the audience to reach it. One of them (I believe it was George) disappeared under a mob of girls and had to be’ rescued’ by the bouncers.

    1. They were not the only band on the bill, I was in the support band “LINDA LAINE & THE SINNERS”.we shared the same dressing room as the Beatles.

    2. Hi Chris
The Beatles were not the only band on 9th April 1963..my band LINDA LAINE AND THE SINNERS
we’re the support band and shared the same dressing room
Which was almost next to the stage…George Harrison had broken a guitar string in the 1st half and exchanged one with our guitarist for a cigarette..all the best..Len Crawley

      1. Sorry Len, the memory’s not that good these days. Recall vividly the Beatles getting mobbed when they left the stage to return to the dressing room though…Cheers Chris

        1. Yes by the time we did the gig Beatlemania had arrived …when we were asked if we would like to support the Beatles we told the manager of the Ballroom that we had never heard of them
We all got signed photos of the Beatles but I cant find mine

    1. I remember one of them shouting out ” ‘ere lads they’ve got a bird with ’em”
..we were setting our gear up when the 4 Beatles walked in, I think it was John Lennon who said that. Then I asked Ringo to move his drums to which he replied ” We’ve got a roadie who does that “
