Does anyone know why the Whitchurch gig is consistently listed as ‘Town Hall Ballroom, Pauls Moss, Dodington, Whitchurch’? (See The Beatles Chronicles) I mean Pauls Moss, Dodington is in Whitchurch but surely not the right address? I wonder how the mistake happened? The Town Hall became the Whitchurch Civic Centre which is on High Street, not Doddington.
The pin on this map is St Catherine’s Church, Doddington (now apartments) – surely not the Town Hall Ballroom.
Hi Roger. Sorry about that. I’ve changed the map location, but I’d appreciate any further information if it’s still not correct.
Cheers Joe. I did some more research. There was a fire in the upstairs of the original Town Hall towards the end of WW2 when the ballroom was being used as a cinema. The current Civic Centre, built in the 70s, stands in the same spot. When the Beatles played in Whitchurch in 1963 the event would have taken place in the adjacent market hall which had survived the fire.
The confusion with Pauls Moss in Doddington is that Whitchurch Urban District Council has their offices there so it was technically the Town Hall.
